Mouth feel is medium. Aroma of chocolate, smoke and pine cones and pine needles. Taste is a rich chocolately porter with insane pine hops throughout, ending in needles, smoked burnt cedar, ending just shy of pencil shavings and metal. Done well though. This is one of the weirdest porter I’ve ever had, in that I don’t think I’ve ever had one with the Chinook and Vanguard hops sizzling in the background. Picked up for $1.50 at Whole Foods in Falls Church, VA. BREWMUSKCLES (1087), New Jersey, USA

I feel like I am on a ship at sea, except much cooler than that. Sampled this at the Gaslight as their guest beer on tap. A great porter. Not overly sweet, but it is a good beer. Very dark, smoky, but still has a good amount of hops. Mmm.. JCB (1796), Durham, North Carolina, USA

Nice looking beer, with a cafe au lait head and a deep dark hue. Very full body, with chocolate malts dominating initially but - as the beer warms - with a tart, bitter hop quality emerging. Nice contrast, and a refreshing change from a default roast vibe. bp (471), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 17, 2007 Bottle: pours a cloudy, dark brown with a thick head, malty aroma with a hint of something fruity, taste is roasted and dry with a slightly bitter finish. This is a pretty nice brew. jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 14, 2007 Pours deep brown with a one-finger off-white head. Dark malts are present in the aroma, but there’s a striking hoppiness, nearly reminiscent of Stone’s 11th. The hops are greener here, more grassy and floral. The flavor begins nice and chocolaty. The hops quickly take over, but the malts come back in the finish, blending well with some of the freshest-tasting hops I’ve ever had. Incredible. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 14, 2007 12 oz bottle. Hazy mahogany red with a tan head. Surprise! Nose is grapefruit with a small burnt malt note. Interesting flavor - well defined grapefruit and orange on top of roasty chocolate and toffee. The citrus impression lasts into the finish. This one caught me a bit off guard - nice! JB175 (1664), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma is pretty roasty with some chocolate and a nice earthy-floral hop essence. Flavor is roasty with some chocolate, coffee, and a nice earthy-floral hop presence. Good feel and a pleasant finish. Another good one from Troegs.
