Nose of dark roasted malt and chocolate. Dark brown pour, hazy but not opaque, not porter thick or stout thick, but not clear either. Taste of dark malts, lots of chocolate, a little bitter espresso, and some American hops, a combination that I really like, but more hops than I would expect in a porter. Nice mouth, not porter heavy or porter oily. A nice beer. LooseCannon (936), Norfolk, Virginia, USA

Aroma is very unexpected with a strong citrus hops and sweet. Taste of hops, roasted coffee and chocolate with bitter finsih. dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 11, 2007 12 oz bottle. Brown with Amber hues, nice color, off white creamy head, nice lacing. bit of coffee on the nose, but predominated by hops, which was unexpected. Incredibly smooth for a porter. No real "choppiness" for lack of a better word. It starts with a good hop kick, but quickly mellows into a carmel-esque smoothness with nice body, notes of chocolate. A touch of coffee in the aftertaste, but not overwhelming. I am definately a fan. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 10, 2007 10/10/2007: Tröegs Dead Reckoning Porter has a murky and opaque dark brown color like that of a Brazil nut. It also has a densely puffy tan head that doesn’t disappear at all and leaves lots of fine, frothy lacing on the glass. Green and grassy hops jump out of the aroma. There are some hints of underlying malt and lots of coffee notes. The flavor is yeasty and roasty with a robust hoppy finish. The dry finish and lingering aftertaste is darkly carmelized malt and some coffee. This beer has a medium-full body and is very smooth on the palate. Overall this is a robust porter that packs a substantial hop flavor and bitterness as well as some dark, roasted, chocolate, and coffee flavors.

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Oct 7, 2007 12 oz Bottle-Poured a deep ruby red color w/a slight tan head. Decent porter, kind of standard flavors of chocolate & malt, but nothing special @ it. Found it to be a little too hoppy w/too much carbination; lacked sweetness. Expected more from this Brewer, this beer was average @ best. ucusty (1908), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Oct 3, 2007 Pours a very dark amber, brown, almost black. There was an inch of tan head. The scent was of chocolate, malt and coffee. A little thin on the end, but a solid porter all in all.
