My boys from Harrisburg rarely disappoint, and this was no exception. This beer really looks phenomenal - pours a clear very dark brown color with a massive tan head and incredible retention and lacing. Pleasant aroma of roast, coffee, and chocolate. Flavor is fairly complex with roasted malt, caramel, t/coffee (toffee and coffee), chocolate, nuts, earth, mild smoke, and hops. Very long on the finish. Medium-bodied and finishes fairly dry yet smooth. Great porter overall. cking (1023), North Canton, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 7, 2009 Chocolate milk and nutty coffee aromas leading to an abundance of English style malts. Dark body, huge lasting head and good lacing. Medium bodied, very malty with a good bitterness and it’s fairly dry as well. Nutty, dry roasted malts followed by flavors of toffee, chocolate, and coffee. Pronounced hop flavor and bitterness. kennydiaz (186), staten island, New York, USA

A little bland for Troegs nothing special or different about this one It was very disappointing. mctous (119), Herndon, Virginia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 4, 2009 The complex malts and simple hops blend well in the aroma. It pours a dark, viscous brown with plenty of hop lace. The malt flavors blend about halfway between brown ale and stout. The roasted malt takes over the finish, which detracts from the flavor and palate. A long hop finish and alcohol warmth mitigate the burnt flavors. With a bit less roasted malt, this would dominate the category. Overall a very good near miss. cprochak (413), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 1, 2009 Bottle at Dayton Ale Fest. Pours a dark, rich brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is smoked malts, a bit of dark chocolate, vanilla, and sweet malts. On the palate, it is smooth. THe flavor brings out the smoked malts, but also brings out a little metalic taste. It finishes very dry. Pretty good porter, very complex. jimmack34 (567), Lancaster, Ohio, USA

Smells of roasted malt and spruce hops. Tastes of piney hops and raosted coffee. Nice bittersweet aftertaste. Nice carbonation. phaleslu (527), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

Pours clear dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of hops, chocolate malt, roast coffee, caramel, nuts. Flavor follows suit- sweet, roasty, malty, with notes of licorice, as well. Hoppier than expected for a porter. Light-medium bodied. Could stand to be a little more robust, as most things are muted here. Clean hop finish.
