Commercial Description:
Dead Reckoning is unfiltered and weighs in at 5.8% abv and 53 IBU’s. It features Pilsner, Caramel, Chocolate and Roasted malts along with Chinook and Vanguard hops. “The outstanding taste and flavor of Dead Reckoning originates in the chocolate and roasted malts,” says John Trogner. “There is a nice hoppiness in the front of the beer, but the rich, smooth mouth feel is what really stands out.”

Beer "E" in our Porter Blind Tasting. Pours deep dark brown with tan to mocha head. The aroma has pine hops mixing with mild roasty malts, molasses, caramel and some grassy hops bringing up the rear. The taste is much the same with mild pine hops moving into a bit of resin followed by earthiness and roasted malts. Nice play between the hops and roast.

Thin dark brown pour with a narrow light tan head. Intense raisin aroma with hints of chocolate. Notes of berries and coffee. Watery flavor with some chocolate and caramel notes. Bitter hoppy finish.

12 oz bottle thanks to an east coast buddy. Dark brown pour, little head. Nice nutty smell with a bit of hoppiness and chocolate as well. Nice chocolate malt flavor but with a very nice hop bite that I quite enjoy paired with this style. Tasty example of a porter outside the box.

Location: Picked up a 6 pack of bottle at Norm’s, drank it Aug ’08

Overall Impression: Solid Porter, a little too hoppy for a porter if you ask me, not that I don’t like hops, just changes the style of beer, but all in all a pretty enjoyable beer.

Strong smell, nuts and purple fruit. Very bitter porter. Lotta hops. Lotta tang. Vegetal even. Dont love it, but it does feel soft and light.

Bottle thanks to machfive55. Pours a dark brown with glints of red-orange. A damn good roasty, chocolate aroma, with some herbal hops. Taste is more solid roasted malt, dark, smooth and chocolatey, then a bite of herbal hops and coffee bitterness at the end.

Enjoyed via 12 oz bottle. Pours a medium brown, with a small light tan head. Nose is quite hoppy, especially for a robust porter. This was unexpected, but not entirely unpleasant. Initial tasting notes were of dark malts, roast, and a balance of American hops. An interesting change from the usual examples.
