Commercial Description:
Troegs HopBack Amber gets its unique name and taste from the HopBack Vessel in our brewhouse. Packed full of whole flower hops, each batch circulates through the vessel, creating a fresh hoppy aroma, spicy taste and rich caramel note that defines this signature amber ale.

12oz bottle from grape & gourmet. pours a very nice dark copper color with hints of red and a very thin, white head and a ring of lace. aroma is nicely hoppy with floral notes and citrus scents of orange and lemon. A bit of spiciness and sweet, darker malts round out the aroma. Flavor is very solid and tilted slightly to the malty side with sweet, bready caramel malt flavors. A nice citrus and herbal hop bitterness add good balance and a dry, crisp finish. palate is very smooth, medium bodied, with slightly high carbonation. overall a very solid session amber that is great when fresh.

Troegs delivers another solid but unspectacular beer. Nutty, earthy in both taste and aroma, a pretty golden hue of a pour. Medium bodied and carbonated.

Pours a light amber color with a nice head. It has a strong citrusy hop aroma with a small malt smell. Taste is of malt with a strong hop bitterness, but not too strong. This beer is lowly carbonated with a medium mouthfeel. It’s a good hoppy amber ale.

Finally troegs in Ma. A little disapointed with this one however. Lost my rating notebook, but it was only last night. Pours a reddish amber very thin head. My initial taste made me think of popcorn, subtle hops, and some sweet caramel like notes. Not impressed, but not disgusted so I guess a happy medium in a category that I have little rating experience in.

Bottle from mixed pack. Pours cherry red with a milky head. Aroma of wonderfully soapy, citrusy hops! Grapefruit, lime, lemon, soap, and tangerine. Flavor is soapy throughout with a soft palate. There is also much citrus, and a touch of toastiness on the finish. Overall, although the flavor was a bit of a letdown after the extraordinary aroma, this brew surely is one of the top ambers out there.

Thanks to my boss for bringing this to me from Pa. Very nice looking pour from a 12 oz. bottle. Rich amber with a creamy tan head. Slow to diminish with nice lacing. Nice balance of sweet malt with a bitter hop finish. Will ask for more.

Another good, well-balanced beer from my hometown boys in the HBG. Amber color, off-white head. Aroma of sweet malt and floral hops. Flavor is caramel malts and fresh-tasting east coast hops, not quite as hoppy as an IPA but more than a typical amber ale. Medium palate and carbonation. Good stuff.

Thanks Brigadier. Pours a clear, nearly red amber with a finger of beige head, which dissipates to a ring and some lace. Aroma is citric hops and sweet malts. The flavor begins much the same, oranges, brown sugar, and then becomes incredibly bready. This is as close as you get to fresh baked bread in a glass. The aroma elements emerge again for a very floral finish. Only minor off element that the grain is a bit too husky for my taste. Medium bodied, lightly prickly on the palate.
