Nice dark amber color with a pretty decent off-white head. Floral and bitter hops on the nose with a bit of matly sweet background. Great bite working with juicy hops and bitterness. Went great with the mussels I was eating. yesyouam (602), Fairport, New York, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Aug 12, 2009 Tröegs HopBack Amber Ale is a very clear, solid amber ale with a thick, dense, yellowish head that has outstanding retention and lacing. It has a fresh hoppy aroma, citrusy and grassy with a hint of sweetness. It’s medium bodied, foamy and very smooth. The finish is clean and dry. This is beautifully balanced. That touch of sweetness seems to go with both the juicy hops and the caramel malt. There’s a little bit of roastiness in the after taste. This is an ideal beer! Duhast500 (202), , Massachusetts, USA

The color is a deep red with a gold tint. The head is two fingers and is a slightly foamy white.
The smell is a bit fruity with a little floral hints. A light caramel and some good hop flavor as well
The taste has a light bitterness, malty with a nice hop finish.
This beer is a great drinkable beer. Is well balanced and goes down easy.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 7, 2009 Bottle courtesy of birdiebeagle. Pours a clear amber color. Moderate white head with excellent retention and lacing. Aroma is floral hops and caramel malt. In the flavor, the floral hops hit you up front but it smooths out into toasted grains and sweet caramel. Mouthfeel is a little on the sticky side, but not distractingly so. I would classify this as a hybrid amber/IPA. It works. Damico (186), Norristown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 6, 2009 Clean ale aroma with a beautiful clear copper color. The flavor has an elastic quality to its hops which starts and ends with the same intensity. The hops aren’t too bitter, just right. williamherbert (475), Syracuse, New York, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 3, 2009 The head on this beer is thick and fluffy. Ruby red with a brown tinge. Glassy but with a haze on the glass. Quite a nice body. The smell is an awesome combo of dark caramel and bitter, woddy hops. The hops evolve into citrus. Really outstanding. The dark roasted caramel gives a needed balance. The flavor is a toasted, roasted caramel malt but with more bitterness at the latter stages. It’s bold on both fronts, the hops and malt. These two strong flavors need each other to keep the seesaw a-movin’. The feel is thick and chewy, creamy and viscous. Really good. It’s a bold and challenging drink. Smooth, dark and bitter. Quite nice. jb (1057), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 25, 2009 Very filtered looking. Dark orange, some head. Pure hops nose. Smell like hops but I guess on the piney side of citrus. Decent mouthfeel, silky, somewhat try, decent balance between the malt and hops. Not sure about the high average rating. This is a decent honest beer but not a lot special going on here.
