Commercial Description:
JavaHead Stout, first released as Scratch 15, contains a blend of locally roasted espresso and Kenyan coffee beans by St. Thomas Roasters in Linglestown, PA.

This recipe is based off of our original 2005 oatmeal stout. After the boil the hot wort passes through our hopback vessel packed full of whole leaf hops and a bed of coffee beans - akin to a French press - intensifying the coffee nose and releasing hints of coffee flavor. The result is a lush oatmeal mouthfeel balanced with cocoa, roast and subtle coffee flavors.

Bottle from jessup plaza. Deep dark brown color with a medium light brown head. aroma is chocolate, coffee, light hop aromas and some oak. Taste is very drinkable with lots of chocolate and some coffee. Bitter chocolate lingers on the palate. Somewhat oily but that doesnt make it bad. Nice.

Bottle from the brewery. So very good. Tasty stout flavors as well as tasty coffee flavors, not overwhelming the tasty stout. All around good.

Poured dark with a tan head, roasty coffee/chocolate aroma with some hops in there, a little bit of a dry finish.

This thing was an odd concoction of which I was not fond of, despite being a Troegs fan. It was like their hop series amber ales but dark and black, quite nasty in combination. Not sure if they intended to make a black IPA type deal, but the citrus hops did not match at all with the roast and black flavors, none of which had a lot of character in them anyway (was this really a stout, coffee quite lacking?). Put me to sleep. Appearance was dark brown with reddish hues, small head. Mouthfeel was moderately bodied.

Tall tan head with a hoppy coffee aroma... taste of hops followed by coffee with a bitter aftertaste

Bottle. Dark brown to near black, opaque pour. Tall, thick, brown head. Spotty lacing all over the glass once the head recedes. Aroma is strong roasted malt, bitter coffee and dark chocolate. Taste is also strong roasted malt, bigger coffee notes, dark chocolate, bitter hops and oddly enough some fruit on the back end. Body is medium-full with a dense, creamy carbonation and a lingering bitterness. Ends with more roasted malt, coffee notes, dark chocolate, cocoa, bitter hops, and more fruit (light melon, some citrus fruit and hint of grape).

Brown black with a brownish crema colored head. Aroma is sweet, with coffee, caramel, chocolate, and citrusy hops. Nice bitterness with no lingering or cloying coffee component. Citrus hops present throughout. $6/22oz

From a bottle poured black with a fair amount of head. Nice sweet malty flavor with a lingering aftertaste of coffee.
