Taste is straight forward coffee and espresso, chocolate, slight roast and an earthy note. I really don’t like coffee or espresso and this beer leaned way to far to that side for me to have enjoyed it. I appreciate what went into it, but I didn’t care for it. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 2, 2009 Traded bottle. Opaque, dark brown pour with a khaki head and decent lacing. Espresso notes in the flavour plus some bourbon vanilla. Big coffee in the flavour and finish. The coffee might be a little overpowering in the flavour but really nice in the finish. Dark brown/black pour with a tan head. Sweet roasty aroma, some dark fruits as well, smells alot stronger than 6%. Flavor wasn’t up to par with the aroma, still some nice roastiness, coffee is pretty upfront too. Not too shabby. markwise (1179), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA

Nose is roasted malt, spice, earth, chicory, and a twinge of sweetness. Flavor is espresso, roasted malt, some vanilla, and defintie coffee bitterness that lingers around past the finish. Medium-bodied and very coffee flavored. Decent Imp Stout. kramer (2465), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 2, 2009 12 oz bottle, via BA ffejherb. Pours a hazy dark brown, almost black, body with a small light brown head, light lacing. The nose is roasty and laced with coffee and dark chocolate notes. Nice coffee forward flavor, burnt day-old coffee, over a roasty and chocolaty malt base with a bit of yeastiness on the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate fizzy carbonation. Overall, a pretty darn good beer, one of my favorites from the Scratch series that I’ve had. Rciesla (3617), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

Hints of coffee, chocolate, oats, and lactose. Earthy and coffee bitterness a bit cloying. iowaherkeye (1856), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Mar 22, 2009 12oz bottle from drinkandrive--thanks! Clear dark brown with a one finger tan head in my Duvel tulip, and the head is better retaining than other beers, so I dunno what the description’s talking ’bout. Roasty coffee beans, clean roasted malts, and some sweet caramel make up the aroma. Flavor follows suit pretty well without turning into the burnt ashy roast that makes me mad about a lot of stouts. The espresso is a little more restrained, though--but it doesn’t bother me because there’s some dark chocolate and caramel that blend really well with the roasted malts. Silky smooth Semi-dry finish with bitterness at a 3. Medium body with low to moderate carbonation. Very nice stout. CaptainCougar (5457), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 21, 2009 Bottle shared by kramer: Pours a mostly opaque black with a thin, stringy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of lightly sweet dark caramel and roasty coffee with a touch of dark chocolate. Body starts with good viscosity and mild sweetness well-balanced with roasty coffee and dark chocolate flavor. A good coffee stout.
