The aroma is muted, yet enticing enough, with a hint of sweet chocolate. Delicious drinker, too -- sweet and rich with a nice smooth body. (#3699, 10/18/2009) Cavie (1490), Fort Worth, Texas, USA

Lightest aroma ever though. Slight feeling of hops but mainly malty. Not much coffee. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA

Appearance: Near black in color; deep beige to ivory-colored head. Flavor: Tastes like The Flying Mouflan with some roast; coffee flavor nowhere to be found; quite hoppy overall. Palate: Medium-light to medium-body; thin mouthfeel for a stout. Overall: Tastes more like a dark/black IPA than a stout.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Oct 17, 2009 THIS IS A VERY IMPRESSIVE BREW. IT POURS A DARK RICH BLACK BUT LACKS THE RICH HEAD OF AN AVERAGE STOUT, ALTHOUGH IT HAS ONLY A SLIGHT COFFEE AROMA IT TASTES SUPRISINGLY OF WONDERFULL SLIGHTLY BITTER HOPS, PREMIUM COFFEE AND A HINT OF VANILLA , THE NICE LEVEL OF CARBONATION IT HAS LACES THE TOUNGE WELL, HARD TO BELIEVE ITS A STOUT I WOULD THINK IT WAS A BROWN ALE. VERY GOOD. l1br4r14n (286), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 15, 2009 Light aroma of coffee and - surprisingly - hops. A decent stout if light bodied, some nice coffee flavor without much bitterness, cocoa, roasted barley, and a noticeable hop presence. tgncc (840), Bellmore, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 14, 2009 On cask at Chelsea Pier, NYC. Aroma is roasted coffee, and citrus/grapefruit hops. The appearance is true to the style, dark brown, tan head. The flavor is like the aroma - a roasted coffee note, and strong citrusy hops. Strange, but enjoyable. The finish was strictly citrus. Medium thick mouthfeel. Interesting. Good, just a little strange. Very hoppy for this style. Kinz (2215), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 11, 2009 Pours black, faint tan head. Aroma is gently of coffee and a bit of chocolate, but also quite a bit of a doughy yeasty note. Flavor matches, very surprised at the level of yeast flavor here. Honestly would not have pegged this as a coffee stout - I have had far more intense coffee notes from many stouts that never saw a drop of the beans. Rather light bodied too for a 7.5% beer. Faint citrus hops on the finish barely there, but detectable. Not bad, just not what I was expecting. Sort of a middling stout. WVHouseofBeer (390), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 9, 2009 Pours pitch black with a medium tan head which stayed the entire time with some lacing. Looked great, and then I was disappointed by the extremely slight coffee aroma which was almost nonexistent. Decent coffee and malt flavor and medium bodied. This could be an awesome beer with a little stronger flavor and any kind of aroma at all. This is the worst beer from Troegs that I have tried, definitely a disappointment.
