Commercial Description:
JavaHead Stout, first released as Scratch 15, contains a blend of locally roasted espresso and Kenyan coffee beans by St. Thomas Roasters in Linglestown, PA.

This recipe is based off of our original 2005 oatmeal stout. After the boil the hot wort passes through our hopback vessel packed full of whole leaf hops and a bed of coffee beans - akin to a French press - intensifying the coffee nose and releasing hints of coffee flavor. The result is a lush oatmeal mouthfeel balanced with cocoa, roast and subtle coffee flavors.

22oz bottle. Large beige head that leaves nice lacing, atop dark brown body. Aroma is medium sweet, oatmeal, chocolate, roast, some espresso, floral. Taste is moderately sweet, chococoffee, some roast, oatmeal, floral/earthy, light anise. Watery light-medium body that holds the alcohol surprisingly well.

12oz bottle. I think Eric brought this one over. Poured a dark brown color with a very small sized off white head. Aromas of coffee, roast, and some oats. Tastes of chocolate, lactose, very light coffee, oats, and roasty. I wanted more coffee in this! This just live up to my expectations and just seemed overall a little light.

Bottle... Pours murky and dark brown with a small, frothy, tan head. Good, swirling, hurricane/Milky Way galaxy-like retention. Milk chocolate and freshly ground, dark roast coffee dominate the nose. Medium to full-bodied and very creamy with prickly carbonation. Heaps of coffee, flanked by slightly lesser notes of chocolate and charcoal. Well-balanced between the burnt and bitter and the chocolaty-sweet. Lengthy, acrid, bitter finish. Kudos to axilla for shipping this very nice brew my way.

Bottle shared by kramer: Pours a mostly opaque black with a thin, stringy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of lightly sweet dark caramel and roasty coffee with a touch of dark chocolate. Body starts with good viscosity and mild sweetness well-balanced with roasty coffee and dark chocolate flavor. A good coffee stout.

Pours dark brown with a tan head. Smells roasty and sweet. Tastes roasty and sweet with some chocolate hints as the beer warms. Rich, textured malt profile.

Deep dark beer with a thick yellow-tan head. The nose has a lot of heavy roasty coffeeish character. Some more fresh coffee character and aroma. Richly sweet with a nice sticky malt character. I like it.
