Commercial Description:
JavaHead Stout, first released as Scratch 15, contains a blend of locally roasted espresso and Kenyan coffee beans by St. Thomas Roasters in Linglestown, PA.

This recipe is based off of our original 2005 oatmeal stout. After the boil the hot wort passes through our hopback vessel packed full of whole leaf hops and a bed of coffee beans - akin to a French press - intensifying the coffee nose and releasing hints of coffee flavor. The result is a lush oatmeal mouthfeel balanced with cocoa, roast and subtle coffee flavors.

pitch black with frothy tannish white head, very attractive looking brew. mild roast to the nose. flavor with initial bitterness that is moderate, but lingering and intermixes with the coffee notes, before some low crystal sweetness and some floral hop notes. a brew that is just too understated for the alcohol content. the coffee flavor is present, but not worthy of the title, and the rest of the beer is pretty standard for, what i would presume would be a russian imperial stout, by the abv and hop presence

Black color, creamy head. Light aroma but deep. Roasted malt flavor, and caramel. Not bad.

Poured a dark almost black with a tall light brown creamy head. There were highlights of orangy red at the base of the glass as light passed through. The aroma was fairly mild with hints of coffee and chocolate. The flavor was predominately coffee and an enhanced bitterness developed from the hops towards the finish. Some dark chocolate flavor also came through towards the finish as well. The head left a nice amount of lacing throughout the glass. I was disappointed in the lack of a strong aroma and a mild finish as well, but still good.

22 ounce bottle, bottled on 9/10/2009. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown with a 2 inch frothy tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there’s some citrusy hops noticable too, mostly in the finish. However, for this being a coffee stout the coffee isn’t strong in the flavor or aroma. For a beer called Java Head I expected a lot more coffee flavor. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s creamy and has moderate carbonation. Drinkability is decent, it’s smooth and goes down easy. The alcohol in this brew is well hidden. I think this is a good enough beer and would buy it again in the future, but since I was expecting more coffee in this brew I have to say I was a bit disappointed with it.

Pours a dark black color with a nice tan head. Great roasted coffee aroma with a hint of malt. Smooth, with some chocolate and dark hoppy flavor. Also, you can sense the coffee. Great stout.

22 oz bomber served in a clear pint glass. Pour was a shade darker than cola with a tan, bubbly foam sitting on the top. Nose is roasted malt, light coco powder, coffee bitter and light hops. Taste is oatmeal, roasted malts, very light java, and some resinous hops that pop out. This is a much lighter taste and body than I expedited from a stout like this. This is not too bad, but I’m not crazy about it either.

Aroma was utterly lacking in any coffee features or for that matter much roastedness, some kind of chocolate powder mix,way to flimsy of an aroma for this kind of stout, flavor was agin tepid chocolate or at the most maybe a mocha, bitterness in the finish ,probaly from hops as opposed to any coffee bitterness. At a loss as to why anyone would buy this, you get the wrong impression from the name,if you want a coffee stout ,there are many that have actual coffee flavor in them, if not,why did you buy this in the first place

@Uno’s Caskfest-pours a rich dark tan head that laces and dark brown with red color. Aroma is pine hops, roasty-dark malt. Taste is coffee/roasty-dark malt, secondary resin hops.
