Commercial Description:
JavaHead Stout, first released as Scratch 15, contains a blend of locally roasted espresso and Kenyan coffee beans by St. Thomas Roasters in Linglestown, PA.

This recipe is based off of our original 2005 oatmeal stout. After the boil the hot wort passes through our hopback vessel packed full of whole leaf hops and a bed of coffee beans - akin to a French press - intensifying the coffee nose and releasing hints of coffee flavor. The result is a lush oatmeal mouthfeel balanced with cocoa, roast and subtle coffee flavors.

22 oz bomber served in a clear pint glass. Pour was a shade darker than cola with a tan, bubbly foam sitting on the top. Nose is roasted malt, light coco powder, coffee bitter and light hops. Taste is oatmeal, roasted malts, very light java, and some resinous hops that pop out. This is a much lighter taste and body than I expedited from a stout like this. This is not too bad, but I’m not crazy about it either.

Aroma was utterly lacking in any coffee features or for that matter much roastedness, some kind of chocolate powder mix,way to flimsy of an aroma for this kind of stout, flavor was agin tepid chocolate or at the most maybe a mocha, bitterness in the finish ,probaly from hops as opposed to any coffee bitterness. At a loss as to why anyone would buy this, you get the wrong impression from the name,if you want a coffee stout ,there are many that have actual coffee flavor in them, if not,why did you buy this in the first place

@Uno’s Caskfest-pours a rich dark tan head that laces and dark brown with red color. Aroma is pine hops, roasty-dark malt. Taste is coffee/roasty-dark malt, secondary resin hops.

Beautiful black pour with a boisterous, fine bubbled tan head. Lacing is evident immediately. Aroma is hop heavy for the style- earthy loam, mocha, evergreen, caramel, chocolate, toffee, and roasted barley. Flavor has quite the bite- dark roast coffee and resinous hop characteristics combine to make for an abrasive but enjoyable flavor arrangement. Tons of dark chocolate, espresso, spruce, citrus, and caramel with more mild notes of cream and roast. Palate is medium to full with a silky, creamy velvet mouth feel and a chalky roast oriented dryness in the finish.

Dark body with a caramel colored head. Aroma has a strong initial hop character with notes of coffee, caramel and almost hidden sour citrus. Body is medium with flavors of coffee with the hops coming through. Finishes off with a mouth feel similar to an IPA with a dryer feeling on the tongue. Overall, this is a rather unique take on the stout style though quite delicious all the same.

No coffee aroma, no coffee taste. This beer is very smooth and slides down real easy. Finishes with avery slight undertone of maybe coffee-esque. But not really. The beer is good and worth a try, but it was a let down from an otherwise good brewery.

22 oz bottle. Pitch black pour. Doesn’t really smell like much - subtle coffee notes, as expected, but nothing huge. Taste is kinda a letdown too - the coffee is there, but it’s in the background. Not a huge coffee bite like I was expecting. A good beer, sure, but far from the best coffee stout I’ve tried.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head recedes to hug rim. Chocolate and espresso aromas. Thin with vanilla, chocolate and sweet espresso. Lasting coffee finish.
