Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head recedes to hug rim. Chocolate and espresso aromas. Thin with vanilla, chocolate and sweet espresso. Lasting coffee finish.

pours a very black color with a huge mocha colored head...some sediment visible throughout...nice lacing and retention. aroma is not as bold as i expected but does have coffee dominating it...also the faintest hint of a dusty aroma. flavor has some roastiness and burnt qualities and mild coffee...a touch of milkiness too..not as complex as i expected. excellent creamy mouthfeel...velvety and lively...with a lingering roasty coffee finish. pretty nice but i was expecting more out of this one...

Black, coffee infused stout, malt, oatmeal, and medium bitterness. Picked up a bomber @ premium price, enjoyed Java Head, but it left me yearning for more.

Large, rocky head--leaves a lot of chunky lace. Dark, dark brown where no light shines through. Cooled off hot chocolate smell; creamy; semi-sweet without the typical burnt aromas. Tastes more dark than the smell. Far more bitter--burnt toast and background hop. It’s thinner than I like, particularly for an oatmeal stout. The aftertaste is similar to mocha. Put it together, a nice complexity.

Bomber from State Line Liquors. Very nice pour, thick and deep brown, with a hefty head. Slight sediment visible in the body. The nose is actually a bit indistinct, particularly as far as coffee stouts go. Sharp hops are the dominant characteristic, and there’s a particular citrus aroma to them. Strange. Full bodied and very smooth, with a dry finish. The flavor is more complex than the aroma, with the bean coming in somewhat shyly - certainly not much of a roasted characteristic, more of a smooth dry chocolate. Overall, it’s an enjoyable beer but I found it more like a black IPA than a coffee stout.

On tap at the Ginger Man in NYC. Pours a very deep brown colored body with a finger-width, creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is full of medium roasted malts, coffees, dark chocolate, oatmeal smooth milk chocolate, and a caramel sweetness. Flavor is similar. Smooth, medium roasts and a good amount of coffee. Lightly sweetened caramel malts with a good amount of rich, dark chocolate as well as milky chocolates. Finishes with a light astringent coffee, medium roasts, and a bit of a floral bitterness. Lingers with lots of coffee and sweet malts for a good amount of time. Dry, lighter body, and smooth. Overall, a really nice coffee stout. Relatively straightforward, but full of flavor. Hard to complain here.

22 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a very dark brown color appearing black in the glass. Large brown head shows good head retention and lacing. Aroma of smooth chocolate and coffee along with very faint roast notes and a stronger hoppiness than I would have expected. Taste is coffee, bitter roasted malts, chocolate and a bitter, leafy hoppy finish. Smooth, creamy. Medium-full bodied.

This was a sample. The Troegs brewery had a representative visiting The Caboose in Ashland for beer sampling. I purchased 22 oz to rate later. They had four beers for sampling. I will spend more time evaluating the 22 oz purchase.
