Commercial Description:
Naked Elf takes a hard look at the less-is-more theory. Ever since we developed The Mad Elf, we’ve speculated what it would taste like without the cherries and honey. So what lies beneath the fruit? Naked Elf is unfiltered, so the spicy yeast taste is more prominent in this strong, hazy orange ale. The combination of the Pilsner, and Vienna malts give a lot of body and minimal sweetness, but Naked Elf has a dry finish. Finally, the heat of the alcohol makes its presence known in the finish. The Naked Elf’s finest quality is the delicate balancing act between a lively yeast kick and a slight alcohol note that lingers in the back of the mouth—constantly reminding us not to overindulge in this complex, warming elixir.

Bottle courtesy of bu11zeye. Clear amber pour. Sweetness upfront on the pour. Some fruity tart as well, sweetbread also. Dry taste that has a sharp feeling of apple juice. Finishes very bitter dry.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye, listed as Scratch 21-2009. This is a tripel?! Pours with a hazy amber with a fading off-white head (does that sound like a tripel to you?). Aroma of apple, spice, banana, and vanilla. Taste is apples and a myriad of other fruits. Medium carbonation.

Scratch 21 bottle via trade thanks to KnightRider on BA. Pours hazy amber with a one-finger white head. Aroma is yeast, caramel, spices, banana, and apricot. Flavor is bready and caramel malt, candi sugar, Belgian yeast, banana, fig, cinnamon, and some hop bitterness at the finish. Fairly sweet. Medium body with a fairly dry finish, medium-low carbonation and lots of alcohol warmth for the ABV. Drinkability average-plus. Overall pretty good. I’d call this more of a Belgian strong ale than a tripel.

Bottled as Scratch 21. Big thanks to machfive55. Hazy amber range with a quickly fading white head. Complex aroma leads with yeast and licorice, caramel, alcohol, and apricots are there, too. Flavor blends a dry, cellar yeasty must with pronounced heat and spiciness, especially cinnamon. Big Red chewing gum is an apt comparison. The backbone carries some banana and fig. Medium bodied, quite warming, lowish carbonation, somewhat dry.

Bottle from hopdog. Thanks! Nose is rather sweet with gum, banana, apple, cotton candy. Cloudy red orange. No head. Somewhat murky. Apple and banana are predominant aspects of the flavor. Some malty sweetness - caramel, sugary bread. A little sharpness in finish. Lightly noticeable alcohol. Zesty carbonation.
