12 oz bottle purchased as Troegs Scratch 21 from Capones. Pours a deep dark orangey amber with a smaller foamy white head that quickly and almost totally disipates. Aroma is all malts and yeast, fruity as well that reminds me of a Belgian and finishes with some alcohol. Fuller bodied with strong carbonation and a rather dry finish. Flavor is yeasty with notes of dry toast, cereal ad spice. This one does have a good dose of alcohol warming especially for only being 6.8%. Not bad but when it comes to different variations of Mad Elf give me the barrel aged version over this one any day.

Pours a dark ruby red/ chestnut brown with dark golden orange hues when held to a light source. Half finger off-white head that immediately fades away into a minimal splotchy white cap. Bready/yeasty aroma with pilsner malt notes and nice spicy/peppery presence. Although the cherries and honey are removed the yeast strain still provides a dark fruit aroma. Slightly medicinal. Nice medium body with creamy yesty bready mouthfeel. Soft tight carbonation with nice spiciness, subtle hops and syrupy medicinal palate with slightly sweet dry finish. Nice peppery spicy notes with yeasty/bready body and sweet dark fruit notes. Dark cherries, plum, date, raisin, fig, etc. subtle hops, syrupy medicinal notes and dry slightly alcohol astringent finish.

[2387-20090801] Sample. Banana yeast aroma has some mild fruity malt. Hazy, amber red body with a medium-lasting foamy light yellow head. Banana yeast malt continues in the flavour. Medium body. Average.

Bottle, as Scratch 21. Pours orange/amber, with a white head. Aroma is banana, spices, and fruit. Flavor is spices, banana, alcohol, and fruit.

Full body, flavorful, a bit of spice and lively carbonation. Nice solid belgian. Drinkable and sweet with some light fruit. Nice without cherry.

A hazy dark amber ale with a thin off white head. A nice fruity aroma, banans, spices. In mout, a light sweet tripel with orange peels, cloves, and candy sugar. Loads of alcohol. Tap at BCTC 2009

BCTC’09. One of the few non-sour beers I rated that was being poured. Couldn’t really help myself while I was pouring a little while for them, I just wanted to know so much what the stripped down version of Mad Elf was like... and it was much better. Poured a very thick golden, shiny, color that one couldn’t see through. Aroma is aggressive grassy hoppiness with sweet yellow corn and white bread malts. Flavor is similar with that original type of sweetness and lower on the hop presence than the aroma displays. Head and shoulders better than the other version.

2009-08-01. Hazy orange amber body with a modest beige head. (3+) Sweet aroma, sugary, light spice. (6+) Sweet flavour is similar, sugary main, light spice, bitterness and alcohol in the finish, sugary sweet malt core. (7+) Average plus palate is lightly carbonated.
