Commercial Description:
Naked Elf takes a hard look at the less-is-more theory. Ever since we developed The Mad Elf, we’ve speculated what it would taste like without the cherries and honey. So what lies beneath the fruit? Naked Elf is unfiltered, so the spicy yeast taste is more prominent in this strong, hazy orange ale. The combination of the Pilsner, and Vienna malts give a lot of body and minimal sweetness, but Naked Elf has a dry finish. Finally, the heat of the alcohol makes its presence known in the finish. The Naked Elf’s finest quality is the delicate balancing act between a lively yeast kick and a slight alcohol note that lingers in the back of the mouth—constantly reminding us not to overindulge in this complex, warming elixir.

Pouring at their booth at BCTC. Pours a hazy brown with a thin white head. Candy, caramel, and fruit on the nose. Flavor for some reason reminds me strongly of SPREE candies… not sure why that is exactly. More candy notes on the finish.

Bottle. Thanks to Rcielsa for sharing. Red golden pour. Flavor and aroma dominated by candied fruit flavors, spices , malt and slight alcohol note. Should try this is the winter. Alright beer.

On tap at Zeno’s. Pours a caramel color with a small beige head. Malty fruity aroma with hints of spice. Taste is malty and fruity, much like the Mad Elf, only lighter and without the spices. Nice.

12 oz draft served in a tulip glass. Poured a hazy amber with a 2 inch pillow of thick white head. Nose is malt, yeast, and a bit of spice. Taste is much the same. This was a very good brew from Troegs. There was enough to variety on the palate to make it interesting, yet not an onslaught, like Mad Elf (which is also a good beer), so that it is much more sessionable. Very good beer, and I suspect that the ABV could prove quite sneaky!

Poured a cloudy light brown with a huge head, sampled in the tasting room. The beer had a good palate with light carbonation but good head, the alcohol was not very present and did not offer much of a warming sensation. The beer has a prominent spice flavor from the yeast, a corriander presence, some light fruity esters but not overpowering. The hops are litterally absent but that is not a drawback to the beer. This is a pretty big beer but goes down very easy.

I don’t know what it is but I’m not a fan of this elf series. Poured amber with white head. Aroma of spice and fruit. Some cherry and cinnamon flavor. Harsh finish.

Pours copper with a thin white ring of bubbles. Smells fruity and spicy with some dry malty presence. Tastes sweet and breaddy with some nice spicy elements as the beer warms. A definite keeper.
