Commercial Description:
Naked Elf takes a hard look at the less-is-more theory. Ever since we developed The Mad Elf, we’ve speculated what it would taste like without the cherries and honey. So what lies beneath the fruit? Naked Elf is unfiltered, so the spicy yeast taste is more prominent in this strong, hazy orange ale. The combination of the Pilsner, and Vienna malts give a lot of body and minimal sweetness, but Naked Elf has a dry finish. Finally, the heat of the alcohol makes its presence known in the finish. The Naked Elf’s finest quality is the delicate balancing act between a lively yeast kick and a slight alcohol note that lingers in the back of the mouth—constantly reminding us not to overindulge in this complex, warming elixir.

Draught: Aroma of fruits, cherries, spices, and wood. Poured amber/orange in color with a tiny off-white head. No head. Hazy. Lightly sparkling. Flavor was medium sweet. Tasted of fruit, cherries, yeast, caramel malts, grains, candy sugar, alcohol, and bubblegum. Medium body. Dryish texture is also a bit tingly. Average carbonation. Sweet finish.

Draft at McGrath’s in Harrisburg. Mostly clear amber and ruby orange color with some shades of color that are close to pink. Sweet candy sugar nose, notes of red apple skins and white grapes. Tingly and effervescent on the tongue, sharp with medium to heavy sweetness, but just under the level of cloying. Light body, with a mild spice flavor, clean all around, low yeast presence. I’m not so big on tripels these days, but this one is tasty enough, with more of a fruit cocktail hop flavor than most, but I would like to see some more dryness and less sweetness. Finishes with a pineapple and white grape note.

I’m sure many people are going to put this down because of the story behind it, but i think its an outstanding beer. It is exactly what it is supposed to taste like: Mad Elf without honey and cherries and is just as great as its larger counter part

Draft at Monks: Pours a dark orangish color, aroma of bananas, somewhat fruity taste but not as much flavor as I was expecting, it’s pretty nice but not spectacular.

On tap at Monk’s. Clear dark orange color with a medium head. Tasted bananas, cloves, brown sugar and dark fruit. Wow, very tasty and fruity; actually, it stands up on it’s own against the Mad Elf. Toffee sweet finish. Fine brew.

Tap at Pizzeria Paradiso. Reddish amber pour; no foam. Initially very quiet aroma of bubblegum, pear, and banana. With warmth, dark hints of cardamom and cinnamon, developing a bit of burnt honey crust. Taste shows more banana and sweet gum, crisp red apples, and an awesome, subtle coating of dark candy sugar, like plum. Medicinal sentiment slowly intensifies but doesn’t overpower. There’s a burn of leafy spice before the finish, very dark, almost anise. Dry fruit skin finish. Medium bodied, with reserved carbonation. The herbal qualities are very pleasant in this surprising, well-rounded example.

Draught at McGrath’s. Good malty tang and light fruity hops. Hefty sugary aroma with a bit of yeasty esters. Copper amber clear with little head Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Starts sweet with fruity malt and candi sugar. Light honey notes (yet I know there isn’t any honey) before mild bittering hoppy finish. Smooth with a medium sweet tang in the after.
