This can be described as Creamy with a sweet taste thats not overpowering as are in some sweet stouts. The y say its best with desserts but I have no regrets drinking it straight from the pint glass by itself. Fantomas23 (463), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA

But that shouldn’t be a reflection on the beer. Black. Smooth. Tasty. A good oatmeal, compares favorable with Sam Smith’s. This is my second beer from Tröegs and I’d love to try more. kramer (2465), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 4, 2006 12 oz bottle. Very dark brown pour with mahogany highlights and a one finger chocolate brown head. Roasted malt aroma with a hearty oat undertone. Notes of chocolate and coffee. Burnt malt up front on the flavor with a bitter, slightly metallic, and astringent finish. Flavor overall is a little thin but the oats do contribute with an earthy underpinning. Fairly thin mouthfeel with fizzy carbonation. Finish is thin as well, but with very good staying power. Not bad, but not as much as I had been hoping for. Both the flavor and mouthfeel were a little too thin. pineypower (1096), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 2, 2006 Pours out a beautiful dark black with a very nice foamy brownish head. Aroma is roasty with notes of oatmeal. Flavor is very well balanced, chocolae oatmeal bit of a coffee aftertaste with some of those roasted malts in there too. Very nice beer, especially for a cold winter night, will have to pick up some more of this stuff! Another solid brew from Troegs OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA

Aromas of coffee, oatmeal, chocolate, and roasted malts. Flavor is sweet milk chocolate, caramel, oatmeal, some coffee and roasted malts. Palate is medium bodied smooth, creamy and mouthcoating. A nice session stout.. Very drinkable. willblake (2180), Belcamp, Maryland, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 23, 2006 02.23.06 12oz bottle. Near black, cola colored with small and quickly fading beige head. Appears to have some heft as it’s rather thick looking and clingy in the glass. Aroma is mild and balanced with caramelized fruits, molasses, and some wood pencil. Palate is soft and rich, but broken up by a mild and tingly carbonation. It’s probably too much carbonation, but I usually like that in the style as it staves off any cloying tendencies. Mildly sweet through the middle, but with a satisfying roasted bitter dry finish. Well done if unspectacular beer, and another that has eluded me for a long time. imzugzug (103), Bechtelsville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 16, 2006 Very nice, but surely not outstanding. Not as sweet as I’d expected. Very heavy and filling in my opinion. When it comes to Troegs, I’ll stick to their Mad Elf. This one just didn’t hit the mark for me. webjedi (249), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 13, 2006 Dark brown red rour, carmel head which died very quickly when poured (Pepsi colored). Slight bitter taste, slight coffe flavor, but overwhelmingly nutty and woody flavored (your "roast"). I’m a fan of stouts, but find Old Rasputin a bit more flavorful than this in the way of domestics. However, it is a unique flavor when paired with other more common stouts. Goes down smooth even with the slight bitter taste, very drinkable (maybe 2-3 per sitting). pairs well with food (but not snack food or Italian)
