Slight bitter taste, slight coffe flavor, but overwhelmingly nutty and woody flavored (your "roast"). I’m a fan of stouts, but find Old Rasputin a bit more flavorful than this in the way of domestics. However, it is a unique flavor when paired with other more common stouts. Goes down smooth even with the slight bitter taste, very drinkable (maybe 2-3 per sitting). pairs well with food (but not snack food or Italian) Numenor (869), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 9, 2006 Excellent sweetness in the aroma, far more than I expect from typical stouts. Deep black coloring with a medium brown head that develops when poured semi-roughly. Good coffee and cream taste, strong hints of milk. Extremely fine bitter ending which is a very good contrast to the sweetness previously mentioned. maniac (2697), Richmond, Virginia, USA

Rich sweet raisiny coffee aroma. thick, inky brew with a few bubbles serving as a scrappy head. It’s delicious, rich, creamy, coffee with a hint of milk and sugar. Nice bitter finish, a fine sessie brew. jehoey (766), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA

The appearence is black with a tan head. The flavor is of coffee with a good stout bite in the back of the mouth. A little sour and creamy. The body is great smooth and has a creamy texture. I really enjoyed it CMUBEERMAN (415), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 1, 2006 This is pretty good. Pours dark brown and has a surprisingly fizzy head for a stout...some good looking lacing too. Smells a bit acidic, but has tons of delicious chocolate notes. Taste is smooth and has some decent hops bitterness for a sweet stout. It is also sweet and chocolatey...go figure. The mouthfeel is actually pretty light and starchy...and I think its pretty refreshing. Maybe the best Troegs I’ve had. Cletus (5060), Connecticut, USA

Aroma was of chocolate and coffee. Could taste hops in the finishing taste. This beer tasted way better warm, even more so then others. Heavy mouthffeel was well done, bitter coffee aftertaste. Well done. "
