Aroma of bitter roasted coffee and hops. Taste is midly sweet with roasted coffee being the most predominant flavor, along with a smidgen of hops and a dry alcohol character. Pretty smooth and drinkable, though not as velvety and complex as the better sweet stouts. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 5, 2005 Super dark brown fudge body with slivers of amber at the bottom. Thin, firm, smooth cocoa brown cap. Minimal lace in tiny spotting along with a slight oily residue.
Nice aroma of deep dark roasted malt and chocolate. Smokey burntness of grains and coffee also make for a good portion of its waft. Oats sweeten the pot by a nudge. Slight ethanolic heat reminescent of some Imperial stouts draws out from underneath as it sits. Impressive nose for an Oaty Stout.
Flavors are quite nice as well, smooth and chocolatey, slight oaty tang within, bits of the roast and coffee show through mostly in the middle. Burnt cookie edges as it closes. Slight hop and dark roasty bitterness returns lightly with a fair amount of milk chocolate staying and small inklings of darkly scorched prune.
Solid medium body with one very smooth carbonation of silky coating the roastability. Great chocolate undertone throughout its entire showcase.
Very drinkable with nice balancing between chocolate, roast, bitter, and oats. What I’ve had from Troegs has always impressed me, and this no different. Good stuff. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 24, 2005 Thick tan creamy looking head that laces really well atop an ultra dark red (near black, but you can see through and see the red). The aroma is sweetly roasted, dark chocolate truffles, milk sugars. The flavor is sweet dark chocolates, very roasty, cocoa, oatmeal. Technically, this is the same style (oatmeal stout) as the St. Ambroise that we just had, but WAAAY better. The palate is a thick mouthfeel with good carbonation. MIBRomeo (1965), Wisconsin, USA
