After letting this one stettle to just above room temp, the chocolate and carob really come out in the aroma and flavor. A litle milky, and a whole lot creamy. Looks tight with a think rim of beige sitting atop the blackness. Finish is minimally hoppy, but round. Probably the 2nd best stout in PA, but that is high praise with Storm King in the neighborhood. baltimoeronbrew (2), Baltimore, Maryland, USA does not count | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 27, 2004 Not too intense of oatmeal aroma, but it is there. More of a roast on nose.
Taste is silky, but dark chocolate on 1st hit on palate. Very easy to drink, creamy head. Speaking of which, i know many seem to say it doesnt give too much of a big head, but if you give this beer a straight vigour pour staright into the glass out of the bottle, you will get a delightful, thicker, creamy head of beer. And if you drink it off draught, that head will be bigger as well w/ that added nitrogen.
Not as bitter as Imperial Stouts tend to be, but it is there. Has dark, burnt, coffee hoppiness, slight burnt fruit.
A stout for stout lovers, but still easy to drink for most no-stout drinkers.
not too dry finish, light tan head. Coffee flavor lingers. So EASY to quaf! yum!
Another reason why Troegs has the best beer in the mid-atlantic area. beerinmarch (2829), Washington, USA

Aroma has a faint roasty chocolate smell to it. Taste is a bit thin with a very nice oawst creaminess to it. Light chocolate malts show up a bit in the start. Medium carbonation with a light bitterness. hershiser2 (914), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 10, 2004 Black with a large, growing, dark brown head. Smells of licorice, sweet malts, maybe even some fruit. Flavor is deep roasted coffee/chocolate, with some definite fruitiness buried in there. Very nice flavor, and definitely one I’ll revisit soon! jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 9, 2004 On tap @ Andy’s Corner. Dark black with a thick, creamy tan head. Aroma of
roasted malts and dark chocolate. Flavor was mildly sweet, with a nice roasted malt flavor and some hop bitterness at the end. Medium bodied,
creamy texture. FROTHINGSLOSH (2036), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 5, 2004 Updated: Jun 12, 2006I am not a huge fan of stouts but when I drink them I prefer the sweeter ones. I have also been reasonably happy with the beers I have had from Troegs so I was looking forward to getting around to this one. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a very small brown head. The aroma was sweet and malty. The flavor is dry chocolate with some light roasted malt and a hint of nut. There was a dry hoppy bitter finish. Not bad, but there are far better out there. FlacoAlto (2482), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 4, 2004 Pours a pitch black color, and is topped by a frothy, creamy brown colored head. The aroma is rich and dominated by notes of roasted coffee, and burnt grain. There is some subtle malty sweet notes, as well as some chocolate. The beer has a thick creamy mouthfeel to it, it is really quite wonderful, with that typical almost oily oatmeal characteristic. The beer is lightly sweet up front, and it finishes with a roasty note of coffee beans. There is a nice level of hop bitterness in the finish, which is a perfect foil for the rich creamy quality of this beer.
This is a really nice example of an oatmeal, the thick creamy character that is typical of the style is perfectly represented here. michael-pollack (2723), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 2, 2004 Draught: Smelled choclatey and roasted. Poured nice dark black color with light brown head. Head was lasting and produced big lacing. Flavor of oats, choclate, roast, and an unidentified spice. Easy to drink. Overall, a good, solid, oatmeal stout, but not the best I have ever had.
