Commercial Description:
TASTING NOTES Tröegs Oatmeal Stout is our interpretation of the classic dry stout style. Dark and creamy with hints of chocolate and black currants, our Oatmeal Stout includes a healthy dose of Centennial and Chinook hops creating a unique stout perfect for the late Fall and Winter.

FOOD COMPLEMENTS With a full-bodied, creamy finish, Tröegs Oatmeal Stout is best with desserts; it is the perfect companion to dark chocolates, cocoa-based treats, caramels, peanut butter desserts and vanilla ice cream.

Bought this 12 oz bottle at Whole Foods in Vienna, VA. Deep black pour with a thin tan head. Nice oats, roatest malt, and some coffee in the aroma. Not as sweet as Samuel Smiths, but still a pretty decent taste. Roasted malt taste, hint of chocolate, coffee, and oatmeal. Fairly decent stout from Troegs. A nice try!

Ahhh oatmeal stouts just the style name conjures up all sorts of tasty things in my head. This one pours a slightly less than black color with an excellent sized head of tan foam. Lacing was left all throughout the glass as this one was drunk. A very tasty looking brew indeed. Aroma is of a sweet bitter dark chocolate and coffee. A nice roasted malt taste starts this one off with notes of chocolate, coffee and of course oatmeal. There was a slight hoppiness to it and bitterness. This one has good mouthfeel and goes down very smooth. Definitely one of the better oatmeal stouts I have had.

Good stout. Very dark appearance. A nice deep flavor, a hint of sweetness in there. Oatmeal stouts... who knows. But I like this one. I was up so late last night, I can’t even put words together here. Sorry.

Deep brown color with a dark foamy head. Both the aroma and the initial taste are unique, and I guess is the roasted oatmeal. A bit malty, but part of that is the deep roasted flavor. A little bitterness on the aftertaste, but nothing to make the taste unenjoyable. An excellent beer to sit down and take your time with.RERATE-had this again at Andy’s as the barrel-aged version...made it even better, increased the smoothness, and the bitterness went away.

Black, with a large off-white head. Aroma is roasted malts, coffee and brown sugar. Flavor is coffee, chocolate, roasted, with a little hint of hops that nicely balances out the whole thing. Dry smokey finish with dark chocolate bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, too bad this is a little bit too thin and watery. Kind of one-dimensional, but still pretty good!

Draught. I picked up this keg at Vecenie’s Distributing Company in Millvale. It has a slight aroma of chocolate and hints of coffee. This stout is very dark (opaque mahogany) with a very tight frothy head, which is the color of oatmeal (tan to light brown). The head is somewhat lasting, but there is always a skim of froth on this beer. The taste is complex, but I mostly notice the flavor of bittersweet chocolate and a slight taste of coffee. If you sip the frothy head when you first pour it, it tastes like chocolate mousse. It has a medium to full-bodied feel on the palate. Troegs website lists the beer at 6.8% ABV, which does warm your stomach; but the alcohol does not overpower this beer. I don’t know if it’s the beer or the freshness, but I like this stout better than Rogue’s Shakespeare Stout. Stouts are quickly becoming one of my favorite beers, and this stout is well worth seeking if you enjoy stouts.

Bottle: Very dark brown with ruby tints, small but thick tan head. Aroma has roasted malts, coffee, burndt chocolate - pretty mild nose overall in terms of intensity. Medium bodied (feels like it wants to be full bodied, but just too watery for that). Sweet toasted malts, roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, and a touch of oatmeal and smoke. I feel like this would be much better on tap.

Super dark beer. Vanilla and oat nose. Oatmeal, sweet, creamy flavors. Slightly smoky as well. Nice balance, nothing overwhelming. Good.
