Heavy malty nose with hints of burnt malt, nuts, caramel, dark chocolate, and strong coffee. Additionally detected some floral hops, grass, grapefruit, smoke and licorice. Very nice indeed. The taste is robust malt with a big hoppy bite on the finish, smoky as well. Well balanced, smooth and creamy feel. Full-bodied with alcohol mostly hidden. Soild stout with good character. Lush yet aggressive in it's presentation. Recommended. LordHedgehog (144), Westminster, Maryland, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Nov 2, 2003 A rich breamy chocolate taste, with a very strong coffee aftertaste that shows up late and then doesn't go away. More complex than the typical stout. PhillyBeer2112 (2089), Orange Park, Florida, USA

Opaque red-brown with huge firm head that never dissipated, leaving almost 2 inches of foam standing in the bottom of my glass! Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate, with a hint a floral hops but the flavor is nearly all roast. Hints of bitter chocolate, some smoke and ash. Bitter finish with roast and hops. I'm feeling this as an excellent partner to smoked meats or fried fish. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA

Coffee and chocolate blend more in this one then in most. Instead of having the two distinct flavors it has more of a cohesive mocha flavor. A slight cookie flavor is also present. Slight presents of alcohol makes this a nice winter warmer. Mocha oatmeal cookie in a bottle. PeterA (339), Virginia, USA

One of the darkest beers I've ever seen - I held my glass up to the light and couldn't see anything through it - cool. egajdzis (3638), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 22, 2003 Poured a brown color, not opaque with a small tan head that left nice lacing. Had a roasted hop aroma that also had some chocolate included there. It had tastes of chocolate, coffee, some hops and roasted malts and a creamy mouthfeel. Hops were very noticable in this one, and I like hops!
