There is a little bit of cocoa, some flaked oats, and a touch of roastiness. The color is a nice black/brown, but the head is pretty unattractive. Big random bubbles and loose carbonation with minimal lacing. The flavor is okay, marginal at best. Its not bad but its not really good. I really wanted to like this beer, it sounded very good and I have liked the other beers I have had from troegs but this was somewhat disappointing. The flavor has an off flavor oat taste followed by a weird tingle over almost overcarbonation in the mouthfeel. Overall a decent beer, but nothing great. None the less I appreciate the chance to try it, and Thanks Jeff! jonjon (22), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Oct 17, 2006 A perfectly smooth oatmeal stout for a cold fall day.
Pours dark and opaque with an offwhite head. Smells of coffee, tastes of coffee with chocolate notes and light hops.
Loved the mouthfeel, nice and smooth. drkilmer (35), Myersville, Maryland, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 16, 2006 Had this on tap at the brewery. I was hoping for a nice, creamy oatmeal stout. This is not. Pours dark with a decent, although minimal, head. The bitterness of the darker, roasted malts comes through, but there isn’t enough sweetness to ballance it out. Strong citrusy hops seemed out of place. A well made beer with a nice, clean finish. Just not what I was expecting from an outmeal stout. illinismitty (1801), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 15, 2006 bottle. Pours black with a brown head. Aroma of dark roast, oats, chocolate.Flavor is bitter with heavy cocoa notes, and some hints of oats and vanilla. Not a lot of sweetness, but enought there to bring it into balance. Some astringincy in the finish. Not bad. Another decent offering from Troegs. cheapdark (2050), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 14, 2006 Updated: Nov 11, 2006No prevailing aroma. A drinkable stout that lacks the total bitterness of the regular, foreign and imperial stouts. I was hoping for something a little sweeter, for a sweet stout. Very dark with little carbonation. Finish is slightly bitter & lasting. Hides it’s alky content well. hophead75 (1964), Boonton, New Jersey, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 28, 2006 Extremely dark brown with a creamy tan head. Lightly sweet roasted aromas with vanilla, cocoa and lactose? Way to sweet to be a dry stout. Good roast malt and dusty cocoa flavor. Slick mouthfeel but not as full bodied as expected. Has some hops in the finish. I would be pleased to find this at a restaurant in Pennsylvania. themadmumis (344), Westminster, Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 27, 2006 12 oz. bottle pours rich with medium, reddish hue head. Mild aroma leads to smooth intake and clear malt, caramel, chocolate notes and clear bitterness. Full body, smooth finish with medium aftertaste. Well rounded and not too bitter. Not very creamy as the bottle describes. Good sweet stout.
