Medium amber color that supports a huge off white head.
Big, juicy malt nose with generous hops.
Stays a bit on the sweet side, but it does what it does quite well. I could drink another one. maltdog (518), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 15, 2005 Glowing amber-orange hue with stunning clarity and the rich depth of stained glass, or maybe Cuervo Gold. Jagged lace paints a silhouette of snowcapped Rockies. Pungent floral, grape, and honey aromas. Also some grassy sauvignon blanc and Xmas tree notes. Unexpected violet and buttery malt flavor, accented by lemon zest and scotch. Mouthfeel falls just short of medium, and has a slight oily quality. Finishes refreshingly dry; aftertaste is cleanly bitter, woody, and a little bit soapy? A quality brew all around.; not your run-of-the-mill grapefruit APA. CStar17 (14), New York, New York, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 14, 2005 I first noticed the head which lasts longer than the other Troegs I’ve tried tonight. Pours a crisp, clear amber. Greasy or oily but tastey. Hoppy. Lionel trains. Smooth, easy drinkin’. Goldorak (439), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 14, 2005 Translucent amber, slightly hinting on orange, decent head.
Skunky (but not the unpleasing light-struck kind) and piney, herbal hops that almost had a catty character to it.
Hops shine through nicely in the flavor as well, oily, herbal and a great mouth-puckering finish. Could use a bit more malt, but a very interesting example of this style that may be run-of-the-mill for some but quite rare in my neck of the woods. TrevorFloyd (309), Connecticut, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 13, 2005 Like the Sunshine Pils, this one has a stronger hop presence than I expected. Still extremely drinkable, not too bitter, and altogether delicious. 1FastSTi (2580), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 7, 2005 Thanks to Kramer17801 for this brew. It pours to a very clear shiny golden body with a nice foamy white head and pretty nice lacing. Very active carbonation. The aroma is crystal malts, citrus hops, mineral water. The flavor is quite malty. Nice pine hops and light grapefruit. Bread dough. The palate has a light bitterness to it that’s not lingering. Medium mouthfeel yet clean and not lingering. More muddled. Not "crisp". This is a nice and well-made APA. The more I drink this, the more I like this. atpayne (615), Zionsville, Indiana, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 5, 2005 Pours very clear golden color with a finger of creamy white head and lively carbonation. Full creamy lacing. Nice citrus hop aroma; sharp and distinct along with a creamy sweet malt. You get a nicely balllanced flavor from this beer. Both hops and malt are presant at different times. Hops are tangy and sharp. Piney and a bit of grapefruit. Malt sits back and emerges when hop has had its moment, providing a nice carmel sweetness and body. Very nice pale ale. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 5, 2005 Beer pours honey color with a well retained off white colored head and good lacing. Aroma is of significant hopping with citric grapefruit juice. Flavor is hoppy, juicy and enjoyable. This is a good pale ale. Thanks to Jason for the trade.
