I’d like to think this is the way a brown ale should be. My wife loves the style and this is one of her favorites. Best way to describe it is imagine a newcastle, but much better. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 11, 2007 Poured a beautiful brown color with HUGE head. Frothy. Nutty/oaky smell practically leapt out of my glass. I could have stared at this and smelled it for quite a while, but it was begging to be quaffed. This beer has one of the most unique tastes of any I’ve tried. Taste was REALLY nutty with, I guess oaky taste too. When I say REALLY nutty, I mean REALLY nutty. I wanted to rate this higher, but only trying it once, and a small sample at that, I feel I have to see how 1 or 2 whole beers go down to see if the taste gets to me after a while. Rich. I will definitely have this again and probably update rating gearbike (420), West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 10, 2007 very much like the other troegs I have sampled recently. very drinkable but rather plain. A caramel and nut taste with not a lot of bite. Dacrza (256), Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 4, 2007 A dark velvet, almost cola tint forms minimal head....syrupy sugar maltiness in the nose...swift, thin rush to the throat--distributes evenly...a bit too fizzy and a bit too un-nutty to produce high marks...a malt presence that suggests imbalance...with time, the taste settles in the tastebuds...not among the better nut browns, but not a turn-off to the style either....Troegs gets the benefit of the doubt normally, but this lacks the professed "toasted" tag I read in its description.... swoopjones (1925), Buffalo, New York, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 8, 2007 Bottle from hopdog. Thanks. Dark garnet pour with no head. Nose of roasted malt, light cocoa, coffee, a little smoke and mild hoppiness. Flavor is more roasted malts, chocolate, and hops. A think this brown is a little underrated. I enjoyed it. jsquire (2123), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 7, 2007 Deep amber color with a foamy mocha head. Dusty chocolate and coffee bean nose. The initial taste of this beer is of an odd, greasey meat. Nutty, yes, but also smokey with chocolate, burnt toast, coffee bean and a leafy grass finish. mansquito (850), Boston/Philadelphia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jul 4, 2007 Pours a good brown color with an ok head if you pour it right, but the heads goes to hell really fast. Roasted chocolate and caramelly aroma. Definitely a creamy feel going down the mouth. Finish is a little metallic. Front of the beer is definitely the better part of it with nutty, malty, and chocolate flavours.
