Commercial Description:
Tröegs Rugged Trail Ale is a unique rendition of a classic English Brown. It has a deep bronze color, rocky head, and prominent Fuggle hop aroma. Toasted amber and Chocolate malts impart a "Nutty" richness and creamy velvet texture.

Bottle. Decent aroma. Pours a decent head with little character to it. The flavor is where the charcater is at. Sweet and mild. A decent brown ale. Very calm.

A nice nutty/chocolatey brew. Not the best that Troegs has to offer, a good brew for the winter months though.

On tap at the Mad Mex in West Philly. Cloudy ruby brown with a minimal tan head. No Lacing. Faint walnut, old socks and brown sugar. Licorice, citrus, wood and, yes some nuttiness. Finishes with light bitterness. Medium light with light carb.

Re-rate, May 07: The sweetness didn’t bother me as much this time as the slightly astringent, earthy, dusty elements. Original rating: I enjoyed this one, although I wasn’t expecting too much. The aroma and flavor were both nutty, malty, and somewhat chocolate-like. I agree with the review that this one started out sweet (too sweet) with a chocolate/nut-like flavor and finished pleasantly dry with some coffee notes. If you like nut browns, this is worth a shot.

Brown. Nutty. So definetly named correctly. It was pretty smooth but was a little flat.

bottle. dark brown/amber with a small off white head. Medium carbonation. Aroma: sweet malts, some chocolate, and some honey sweetness. Taste is malty caramel, nutty, a bit thin bodied with a smooth finish. haven’t drank many nut brown ales so don’t have a good means of comparison yet.

Bottle. Beer was clear, medium-to-dark brown with a small, creamy, white, mostly diminishing head. The aroma was malty with light notes of cookie, heavy notes of husky toasted grain, caramel, and a trace of coffee; Hoppy with moderate notes of herb; Yeasty with moderate notes of dough; Trace miscellaneous note of honey. The flavor was lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter with an average-to-long finish with a light-to-moderately tangy and sweet finish. The body was light, the texture was watery and the carbonation was lively. Trace astringency on the finish. The best of the Tröegs brews shared with us by hawkshadow—thanks!

deep brown with modest initial white head on top. Suitable carbonated, aroma of nut and molasses and licorice. Smooth and very malty drinkable. Little bitterness from hops. Nice transition beer.
