Mar 14, 2009 Bottle. Looks like cola. Pleasing deep roasted malt is not totally unlike cola either. Flavor though for me is just not there. Weak, watery, and indistinct. This beer was my first from Troegs and the reason it was longer than it should have been before my second. I like much/most of the rest of their beers.

Mar 12, 2009 12oz bottle. Dark brown color with a beige head. Nutty, roasty, and light chocolate aroma. Dry and robust flavor with toasted and chocolate malt flavors. Ends with a little hop bite. I was definitely suprised at how much body and flavor this had for being only 4.4%. Well balanced overall with nice roasty malt flavors.

Mar 11, 2009 12 oz bottle Pours a clear dark brown with a small receding off white head. Leaves spotty lacing behind. Nose is malts and nuts. Didn’t get any hop in the aroma as the commercial description implies. Palate is average for the style. A bit on the thin side with basic carbonation. Flavor is roasted malt with a hint of sweetness and some nuttiness. Just a hint of hops.

Mar 6, 2009 Bottle. Dark brown pour with a small tan head. Aroma is very robust wtih cuban coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, nuts and some fruit. Flavor has a great deal of nus and coffee wtih a nice background of chocolate. Man this is a damn nice brown!

Mar 1, 2009 Pours deep mahogany into a shaker. Head quickly recedes to hug rim. Sour peach aromas. Roasted nuts and sweet caramel upfront. Lasting sour chocolate finish.

Feb 28, 2009 12oz bottle from mrchopin. Troegs is quickly becoming my favorite east coast brewery. Rugged trail pours a lightly hazed deep brown with a thin tan head. Tons of toasted malts and hazel nuts on the nose. Flavor was malty and toasty, a pretty damn good brown.

Feb 19, 2009 Bottle from sampler. Pours dark brown with ruby undertones and a small head. Aroma is oddly hoppy-sweet: it is more floral than anything else. Palate is thin, with a dry finish. Flavor features esters, faint nuttiness, and semisweet baker’s chocolate. Finish is slightly roasted, with bitter endings. Overall, this is Troegs weakest offering I’ve had. Palate is too thin, and flavor is indistinct.
