Commercial Description:
Tröegs Rugged Trail Ale is a unique rendition of a classic English Brown. It has a deep bronze color, rocky head, and prominent Fuggle hop aroma. Toasted amber and Chocolate malts impart a "Nutty" richness and creamy velvet texture.

12oz a mixed bag here. a Brewery my GF loves and a beer style that I rarely enjoy. Bonus from RCL. Thanks. Paired with stuffed peppers collard greens and ciabatta bread. Pours brownish with a tan head. Nose is sweet with a touch of toffee. Taste is sweet and rich with a touch of chocolate malt and some nutty qualities. Decent to say the least.

Slight toffee aroma. A beautiful dark red color with a thin, tan head. Restrained nutty malt flavor balanced with slight hop bite. Has a slight tang in the back of the cheeks. A toasted, crackery finish. A middle of the road nut brown ale.

Now I love Troegs, but I wasn’t a huge fan of this offering. It was pretty good, but a little too run-of-the-mill. Brown color with almost no head. Aroma and flavor are malty and nutty. Medium-bodied. Slightly hopped. Decent, but in a whole different class from, say, AleSmith Nautical Nut Brown.

12 oz bottle - pours a deep ruby red/brown color with small light tan head. Aroma is malty, fairly nutty w/ hazelnuts, toasted caramel, bit of wet oak. Flavor is malty, oaky, nutty, faintly roasty. Finish is mildly sweet. Decent overall.

Smells pleasantly nutty and dark. Taste is a little weak and watery, but very nice caramely dark malts with some nutty flavors.

Dark pour with minimal off-white head. A little malt and some hops. Flavor is of the same. Not great, but not bad.

Poured a pretty standard light brown color with a foamy head. Aroma was mostly toasted malts and maybe a hint of hops, but not much. The flavor was mainly straight maltiness, but had a weird cherry fruityness that I didn’t like. Nothing completely offensive with this one, but not much right with it either.

Bottle. Pours a mostly opaque brown body with a reddish hue at the edges and a tall soft tan head. Nose is roasty and nutty with some sweet bread notes. The pallate is light and slighty thin and feels almost metallic. Flavor is front loaded with roasty nutty malts and a pleasant dry baking powder flavor. Sugar cookie dough almost. The flavors quickly fade and turn watery and undecernable. Would make a nice dinner beer depending on what the pairing is.
