The aroma was very resonant with the anise, which gave a very strange twist on the tripel style.. the caramel and molasses backing was also strange, but it worked fairly well.. good in the fact that it makes you think. The flavor also had a whole bunch of anise and molasses along with orange zest, blackened sugar cane, mild floral bitterness, and alcohol amplification on the edges.. this really grew on me with warmth. Heavier-than-medium-bodied on the palate with low overall carbonation but some tight bubbles on the edges.. well-balanced throughout. This was a bizarre example of a tripel, but I kinda dug it. kramer (2465), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 25, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a very turbid amber body with lots of chunkies churning about. Not a very appetizing looking beer. The nose is very spicy with a good bit of anise. Lots of yeast, some orange peel, and just a touch of noticeable alcohol. The flavor is very fruity and spicy, there’s a very strong anise character and a bit of a cough syrup like medicinal note on the finish. Moderate fizzy prickly carbonation. This was pretty tough at first, but it turned out OK in the end. CaptainCougar (5458), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 16, 2009 Bottle: Pours a hazy bright golden with a well-lacing wispy white head. Aroma of sweet biscuity Belgian malt and lots of orange, clove and coriander spice. Body starts with good fullness and sweetness balanced with lots of orange and peppery spices with some licorice and lavender notes. Finishes slightly more bitter and the spices help to conceal the alcohol. A pretty authentic beer that should age well. checkmatei1 (630), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 16, 2009 Bottle: Poured a orange color with not much head. This grand cru was sweet, fruity, spice, and caramel. The flavor was the same, which made this a pleasure to drink. They could brew this one yearly. ucusty (1887), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 28, 2008 Light golden color with a small collar of white foam. Bottle conditioned. Sweet and heavily spiced, with notes of caramel, orange, peach, tangerine, herbs. Heavy spice and herb aroma. No apparent flaws, perhaps by being too sweet and overly spiced. Better than expected. bu11zeye (5470), Frisco, Texas, USA
