Scratch #10-2008 also has a triple flavor inspiration combining the caramel/toffee notes of dememera sugar and molasses, with citrus and licorice flavors created by the orange peel and star anise; lastly we create a peppery/spicy finish with the same trappist yeast has been used in each Scratch Beer Triple.

12 oz. bottle via trade with zathrus13 - Pours a cloudy golden color with a half finger thick off white head that faded pretty quick. Faint lacing. Flavor is lightly sweetened doughy malt, esters, alcohol, and spice. Aroma is licorice, esters and spice. The alcohol is noticeable. Medium body. This beer is half way decent. Thanks Jeff.

Poured a hazed amber with a creamy creme colored head. The aroma was of caramel, esters, banana and alcohol. Flavor of browned fruits, caramel, spice and quite a bit of licorice on the finish. Medium to full bodied.

Bottle from CaptainCougar. Aww yeah. Free! He’s the man. This is strong, boozy, and extremely fruity, and after another strong ale has gotten me rather tipsy. +1. Does saying things like that lend credibility to the site? Let’s hope so. Anyway, I like this, I like the sweetness, I like the complexity (lots of spices, fruit, yeast notes), I don’t see what everyone is complaining about with this. But maybe I’m just drunk.

Courtesy of Tertons. Pours a hazy amber with a thin white head. Smells of fruit, sugar, citrus. Tastes sugary with a lot of residual sweetness. Not crisp or clean.

Generously shared by Aaron at Mr. Bones. Pours a deep amber orange color with a very small fizzy white head that was gone after a few seconds. Spicy papery hops, apricot, yeast, and anise. The flavor is like a licorice stick dipped in sugar. Very sweet and very strong licorice. Some notes of vanilla, cassia, and definite ginger. Has a pretty bitter finish to it. The body is kind of weak, but overall, if you can get over the copious amounts of anise, it is decent.

Bottle generously given to me by CaptainCougar at the Cuvee de Castleton Batch 2 release: Pours a deep hazy orange with an off white film of head. The aroma is just a sugary sweet pungency. Honey, bubblegum esters and alcohol. The body is slick. There’s is way to much sweetness going on in the flavor. Sugary, tastes like pink bubblegum and candy corn from Halloween as a kid. Does has a peppery alcohol note as well as a very subtle herbal note of Belgian hops (which is really hard to detect with all the sweetness) Just too sweet and one-dimensional.

Bottle served in a trappist glass. Lightly hazy amber liquid, barely any head. Smells of orange, candi sugar, & anise. Flavor leans toward sweet and has notes of citrus and candy. Has some warmth to it as well. Not bad but too sweet and too much spice for my tastes.

Thanks to a few people who sent me this. Bottle poured into a sniffer hardly produced any head the body was apricot in color and there was a little bit of yeast sediments on the bottom of the glass Aromas of licorice, coriander and wonderful Belgian yeast filled my nose Great taste of spices and sweet candy sugars fill your mouth. Very sweet not to much bitters or pepper notes involved in this one at all no alcohol warmth either so it will sneak up on you Medium mouthfeel not much carbonation on the tongue a little sticky if anything A good Grand Cru I enjoyed every drop very spicy indeed great flavors I think I could drink a couple of these in a sitting as long as I am not driving .I really enjoyed these Great job Tröegs
