The third time just might be the charm—Scratch #10-2008 is our third triple in the Scratch Beer series.

This grand cru has been lovingly aged since late-February, yet still unleashes the slightest hint of alcohol heat.

Scratch #10-2008 also has a triple flavor inspiration combining the caramel/toffee notes of dememera sugar and molasses, with citrus and licorice flavors created by the orange peel and star anise; lastly we create a peppery/spicy finish with the same trappist yeast has been used in each Scratch Beer Triple.
  • O.G.: 22 Plato
  • I.B.U.’s: 18
  • Malt: Pils, Crystal
  • Adjuncts: Molasses, Dememera Sugar
  • Juju: Orange Peel, Star Anise, Molasses

12oz. Bottle: Aroma of new vinyl (plastic), yeast, peaches, and spices. Pretty terrible scent. Poured orange/amber in color with a tiny, golden head that disappeared immediately. Cloudy. Full of tiny particles. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of honey, lavender, yeast, anise, and plastic. Medium body. Chalky texture. Soft to average carbonation. Sweet, fruity, spiced finish. By far the WORST in the Scratch series so far.

Bottle: orangeish with a foamy white head, aroma of yeast, banana, nice sweet smell, taste is a bit of a surprise in that it is fairly spicy, also has yeast and honey flavors, a bit of a warming feeling in the throat as well. Pretty decent beer.

12 oz bottle purchased from Capones. Pours a slightly thin bodied orange with an average size quickly dissipating white bubbly head. Aroma has lots going on with lots of sugar, molasses, bread, alcohol, mint and grains. Full bodied with average carbonation and only slight alcohol warming from the 10.2%. Flavor of pepper, bread, alcohol and slight balck licorice. A pleasant abbey and I might have bumped the score up slightly since this is a style I have really been enjoying lately.

An interesting brew... pours golden and slightly cloudy, but lack head retention. aroma is rootbeer, pepper, and back notes of citrus. flavor is intriging. more rootbeer with with spices. I guess that’s about it actually. I think its more enjoyable than the score recommends though. medium bodied. overall its pretty good.

Thanks to Miver for this one. Pours out a light hazzy copper color, little darker than I’d expect a tripel. Atoma of interesting sweet fruits, banana, light cherry and some yeast. Taste is complex, at first a bit boozy, then a bit sweet, candi sugar, sweet banana, spice and some lingering honey....also some yeast.

12oz bottle. Pours a hazy, dull-orange color thin off-white head with patchy lacing. Messy, sticky-sweet aroma: chewy bananas, Belgian sugars, basic yeast and some definite licorice in the aroma solid, if a bit sweet overall. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: sweet, sticky Belgian sugars, licorice, and plenty of oily fruitiness (predominantly bananas) an underattenuated, lightly carbonated, generous beer overall not a lot of alcohol showing through, just a touch of warmth very sweet throughout. Medium finish: Belgian sugar, bananas, and that lingering licorice note (which actually does a fair amount of work for making this an interesting enough beer).
