This grand cru has been lovingly aged since late-February, yet still unleashes the slightest hint of alcohol heat.

Scratch #10-2008 also has a triple flavor inspiration combining the caramel/toffee notes of dememera sugar and molasses, with citrus and licorice flavors created by the orange peel and star anise; lastly we create a peppery/spicy finish with the same trappist yeast has been used in each Scratch Beer Triple.

A very average tripel. Aroma was pepper, spices and yeast. Pour was a hazy murky orange with no head or bubbles. Taste was strong, hot and peppery. Spices, corriander and yeast are full force with orange peel and citrus in the aftertaste. Thick mouthfeel. Biggest complaint of this beer is that it doesn’t combine all these flavors coherently. This is too all over the place.

Pours hazy gold, with a white head, although a very small one. Aroma is licorice, with some fruit and yeast. Flavor is licorice, spices, and fruit. Kind of a flat palate. This is unique, but seems to be missing something. Maybe aging will help.

Pours a slightly hazy light orange copper with almost no head. Aroma of black licorice, cotton candy, candied malts and anise. Taste of sweet candied malt, licorice, cotton candy and belgian spices. Has a slight gingery/peppery aftertaste. Not bad at all.

Bottle from capones. Light brown in color with a small white head that didnt last long. Aroma of spices and some clove. Taste was quite disappointing, nothing like a triple at all, except for the alcohol burn on the way down. Not very good for the style they were trying to make.

on tap-pours an off white head and hazy gold color. Aroma is medium malt, orange/anise, spices-clove. Taste is medium malt-licorice/anise, rock candy, spice-clove/peppery. OK effervescence.

Bottle sampled with Mad_Indian. Pours light amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of spices, belgian yeast, citrus, and fruit. The flavor is sweet, biscuit, spices, citrus, and alcohol is noticeable. Boring brew for such a good style.

Bottle from capones. Pours a Light brown changing to a lighter yellow as you finish the body. Head quickly diminishes to nothing. Aroma is sweet malt and loads of spices. Flavor is sweet malt with a strong overlying spicy yeast character and a good warming. Solid beer.

My wonderful husband brought a growler of this home fresh from the brewery. Belgian yeast and spices dominate both the aroma and the flavor. Sweet, but not overly so. I quite enjoy this scratch.
