| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 25, 2009 I discovered Troeg’s Scratch 4( now Flying Muffdiver), so I don’t want to catch any crap over this review. Anyhow, it pours brown with off-white head. Nose is caramel malt, hops, mild funk, and mild peppery florals. Tastes malty, hoppy, soapy, woth some pine, rock sugar, and vegetal flavors. Earthy and a bit odd at the finish. John and Chris, please stop this madness and make Scratch 4 year round! Ughsmash (4027), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 16, 2009 Thanks to Rich for the bottle! Poured ruddy, medium brown with a short-ish cap of beige head.. clear with a cool color in the light. The aroma picked up sweet toffee, sourdough bread, and increasing molasses topped by earthy and herbal hoppage.. lots of rich sweetness stood out and was almost candy-like. The flavor was very much centered around the molasses, with a little toffee and cereal down there as well.. bitterness was light and earthy, likely degraded from where it began.. candied molasses and maple syrup on the warm, lightly spicy finish (picked up a little nutmeg and cardamom). Medium-bodied at most on the palate.. tasty and intriguing components in here, but it didn’t flow all that well. Sammy (4000), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

A style I do like, an old ale, this was a cross between that and a winter warmer and an ESB. Wonderfully tamed hops and barley, with a fruitiness. Marvellous drinkability.Pours dark fruity brown with a minor white head. Fruitiness in aroma. ABove average mouthfeel.

Aroma of caramel malts, toffee, toasted notes, nuts, and pine. Taste of caramel malts, nuts, tannic graininess, tobacco, pine, and some gritty yeast. Rciesla (3621), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 18, 2009 Bottle. Pours a mahogany amber brown body with a thin tan head. Sweet chewy malt aroma with a hint of apple. Light earth and pine. Molasses roasty coffee hints a light note of honey. Finish is dry and very english like. It’s slightly reminiscent of a sammy smith brew but i cant put my finger on which one. Dickinsonbeer (3451), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 25, 2009 Bottle at EBF- they told me it was their winter warmer strong ale. Ugh- pretty damn bad. Pours a dull brownish with a thinning head. Aroma is light fusels and strange esters- lightly fruity and lots of herbal almost vegetal dms. Flavor is nutty, and lightly sweet with a slickness, ok caramel, weird fruitiness grassy and herbal with tons more dms. This was one of the worst scratch beers I have had.
