riversideAK (2648), Shoreline, Washington, USA Oct 9, 2009 Nose is of muted hops, rye malt and earth. Golden orange, thinnish head. Rye spice up front, some acidic hops, and a medium earthy dry finish. Medium carbonation, smooth and almost refreshing. noncaloric (601), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Sep 30, 2009 Big thanks to machfive55. Hazy gold-amber, three-finger off-white head, retained for several minutes before to a film and a generous, sticky lacing. Initial aroma is musty yeast. This fades to be replaced by crisp, lightly caramelized malts. Flavor balanced a pronounced hops bitterness with a bready malt backbone. Not so much bittersweet as bitter and resinous, tea like. An India brown ale in taste, despite the lighter color. Some minor fruit notes include citrus and apricot. Nothing is off. Very solid beer. Medium body, zesty mouthfeel with a good hops burn. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Sep 18, 2009 Bottle thanks to Rich! Poured near-clear medium orange with a medium, well-retained cap of whitish head. The aroma picked up biscuity malts topped by resiny pine and floral character.. smelled like it had a touch of oxidation to it, but that didn’t hurt it much. The flavor had the same biscuity malts along with some caramel at the core.. grainy, resiny hoppage surrounded in the form of pine and grapefruit meat plus added peppery rye that stuck on the finish. Medium-bodied and well-carbonated on the palate, and grainy as mentioned.. balance was alright, but it was kind of sharp at times. yobdoog (1417), Woodridge NY, New York, USA Aug 17, 2009 Cloudy yellow with a small head. Aroma of citrus hops and some green grassy hops. Flavor is sweet and hoppy. Well balanced. Not a great IPA, a bit sweet and mellow. Good brew otherwise. alexsdad06 (1055), Ohio, USA Jul 25, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy amber color with a medium off white head. The aroma is fruity citrus, floral, toasty, caramel, and rye. The flavor was moderately sweet with a decent balance between the bready caramel malt and the citrus and pine hops. The rye is present in each taste. Medium bodied bitter finish. mj (4971), Colorado, USA Jul 14, 2009 Cloudy amber. Rye is very distinct in the nose. Some dried orange peel, caramel, toffee, the Warrior hops are caustic, toasty, bready, corn-like and husky. Creamy and thick. Syrupy and frothy. Husky rye and toasted grains, some dried citrus... little bit of barkdust flavor at times. Stale bread and soggy wood come to mind. Not one of their best beers. Not anything like how I like IPA. argo0 (6842), Washington DC, USA Jul 3, 2009 (2nd Shenandoah Throwdown, 12oz bottle, thanks Dickinsonbeer) Small beige head atop cloudy light amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, catty/pineapple/grapefruit, some bread/caramel, light rye/spice. Taste is medium sweet, grapefruit/pineapple, light bread/rye. Medium body, some resin/stickiness. Cletus (4999), Connecticut, USA Jun 19, 2009 Bottle courtesy of alexsdad06. Pours a hazy amber with a nice white head. Smells of citrus, earth, ginger. Tastes of pine resin, citrus, some caramel. Mildly oily bitter finish.
