Malt and caramel pop out for the aroma. Flavor hit both the malt and caramel, but also had a really nice touch of sweet bubblegum notes in the background with just a vague hint of hops there also. Finish is creamy and nice.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 10, 2009 Bottle. To my surprise, I really enjoyed this one. Pour was a dark red, brown mix with two fingers of head. Malts and hops were very well balanced with taste of caramel and maybe some honey. Fruit was of cherries. I will need to pick up another to rerate, as I was enjoying this beer so much I didnt take good notes. mike67 (80), , New Jersey, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 6, 2009 22oz bottle. I bought it to try with a duck. Pours a dark red with no head and Champaign like carbonation (I had to switch a glass to a flute). Aroma is of cherry, caramel malt with slight hoppy notes. Full, sparkling body. Flavor starts off sweet, caramel malt, dark fruit and molasses with some alcohol and earthy notes at the end. Quite tasty, heavy brew. tastybeer (86), Washington DC, USA

Flavor starts off sweet, roasted malt and molasses, caramel malt, and dark fruit...subtle hops in the finish. I had to try this one twice before rating...I couldn’t stand it the first time around, but now I like it...not bad at all. patrickfannon (346), Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 24, 2009 Pours a nice, amber tinted, deep copper color. Two fingers of tan foam form quickly and dissipate just as quickly. Lacing is foamy and doesn’t hang around long.
Nice malty nose with hints of caramel nuttiness. A kind of buttered bread presence. Light hints of figs and dates. Also, some notes of honeyed apricots.
Flavor is lighter than expected.
Nice roasted maltiness. There’s that butterey bread presence, again. Light fruit notes follow the nose. Hint of cinnamon spice. Good caramel notes and hints of honey.
Body is medium, at best. Definitely on the lighter side of the Doppelbock scale. Taste is enjoyable, but the body needs to be quite abit fuller.
This could be used as a ’gateway’ Doppelbock. It has the qualitys that you’d expect, thay are just toned down. This makes it very easily drinkable.
I just, generally, want more than this, from the style.
