Commercial Description:
They took a batch of Troegenator wort and fermented it with a peppery yeast (one of the two yeast strains in Mad Elf) to create a more complex, spicier Troegenator. At a bold 9% abv, this beer is "liquid bread" for sure, and maybe a Christmas cookie as well.

12 oz Scratch 24. Pours a deep chestnut with a smaller bubbly off white head. Aroma of dark fruits, spicy Belgian yeast, pepper, cotton candy, nits and toasted malt. Flavor of toasted malt, caramel, toffee, nuts, spicy Belgian yeast and earthy notes.

The aroma is fruity, licorice, caramel, pepper. Nice. The appearance is red/brown, white head. The flavor is more peppery than sweet, some fruitiness. The finish is spicy, peppery. Medium mouthfeel, strong carbonation. Decent, enjoyable. I love, Dopplebocks, and the Troegenator in particular. The peppery quality infused into this beer makes it almost unrecognizable as the Troegenator.

Bottle Shared at Ryan & Max’s Tasting @ Pauls. Pours a mahogany body with an off white head. Fruity earth spicy body with some spicy fruit esters accented with plum, cloves and light minerals. Some lighter caramel but still very fruity with a light warming of citrus. Nice ale.

Bottle, as Scratch 24. pours a ruby-copper color, topped with a very thin off-white head. Aroma is on the sweet side, with notes of candi, bubblegum, spice, dark fruit, and Belgian yeast. Flavor begins quite sweet and a bit syrupy, with caramel, tropical fruit, candi sugar, and yeast. Spice overwhelms the sweetness towards the finish. Alcohol becomes quite prominent as the beer warms. This was OK, but I expected more based on the aroma.

thought this was pretty good, had a bit of a spicy sweet malt aroma, body was a bit creamy, had a nice spice taste to it, carbonation i think could have been better.

Bottle at Paul’s tasting. Pours a clear thin black to brown with a thin white head. Sweet cordial style alcohol. Light sweetness, little cola and caramel. Finishes up with some light caramel. Nothing overly memorable, but not terrible either.

Bottle as Scratch 24. Pours a clear crimson color with a small, quick head of frothy, bubbly, ivory tinted foam. Skinny micro-lines of lacing mark the glass. The aroma is a bit odd, showing notes of Juicyfruit bubblegum, candied tangerine peel, and dark winter spices over a malt base of bronzed candy sugar. There’s even some unexpected mango, papaya, and strawberry notes in there, which are completely off the wall for the style. I can’t recall any dubbel I’ve had that is anywhere near as fruity as this one. Flavors aren’t as well defined, but still sport an insane amount of fruitiness, even delving into the tropical varieties. Bubblegum again serves as a detractor, while bready yeast lends a very Belgian feel to the sweet, dark candy malts underneath. Candied citrus is prominent, as are dark, zesty spices. The palate is medium bodied at most, perhaps a little thin for a dubbel, finishing moderately dry and spicy. Eh, this was decent, but not my style. I don’t really care for the heavy spicing or the weird fruity elements.
