Commercial Description:
Shangrila was the first creation from Birrificio Troll. It is of dark amber color and has a persistent head and with its 8.5 alc./vol. it warms the palate and the heart. Shangrila is brewed using malt, English hops and a mixture of spices from the Himalayas: tandori (Blend of coriander, cumin, garlic powder, paprika, ginger, cardamom, saffron), curry, pepper, anise. Shangrila is a complex full bodied beer with exotic scents and an intense flavor. Shangrila is a perfect companion for meats of every type, especially ones grilled over charcoal. It also pairs very well with fine cheeses.

Courtesy of Degarth. Opened up explosive with beer everywhere and poured hazy copper – orange – brown with thin than head. The aroma has coriander, flower pedals, alcohol heat, herbs, earthiness, dark fruitiness, truthiness, cinnamon and brown sugar. A lot seems to be going on, time to dive in. The taste is much the same with sugar sweetness that turns to brown sugar, fruity esters, some herbal earthiness and lots of assorted spices.

750 ml bottle from Knightly Spirits. Pours a caramel/amber color with 1.5 inches of tan head that reduces quickly. Spotty lacing. The nose is strong with grapefruit. Flavors are boozy with strong characteristics of bourbon, light fruits, subtle hops, spices, pepper, moldy shoes, and candi sugar. Bitter but well-rounded mouthfeel. There’s a helluva a lot of natural sediment floating around. By the end of the bottle, the brew resembles a clump of mud; looking almost solidified. Medium carbonation and body. Very interesting and complex.

Bottle. Medium sized fizzy beige head that mostly diminished, splotchy amounts of lacing, a lot of floaties, cloudy, visible carbonation, and an orange golden hue. The aromas that I detected were sweet, spicy, lightly hoppy, pepper, paprika, sugary, ginger, and coriander. The flavor was sweet, spicy, pepper, sugary, and some ginger. Tingly mouthfeel and medium bodied. I did not like the flavor of this beer as it was complex and a total mess IMO. This beer did not leave me wanting it again. Next!!

Pours a cloudy brownish color. This became a drain pour. It tasted oxidized but my guess is that it’s just a shitty beer. I should have known better - waste of money.

Pours out a murky brownish-red color that appears like discharge from a waste water facility. Aroma is of light spice, oxidation and aforementioned waste water discharge. This beer survived only a few sips before my brother gave me the okay that I could dump this crud. Yuck!! Not sure if I got a bad bottle or not, but this was a complete drain pour.

Cask at Bir & Fud Rom/Italy: Hazy red colour, with a flat head. Aroma of fruits, citrus a bit viny too, and a sweet alcy ending. Flavor is almost the same, dominates of the fruits, caramel, and alcy mouth feeling. Thin to medium finish.

Bottle at tasting at Chris Fischer’s (from Liars Club) house. Pours with a deep amber-brown body topped by a medium thick head with a god amount of lacing. It’s sweet and malty with some floral notes. Medium to full bodied and warming.

(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of Ungstrup. Hazy, amber golden with tiny impurities and an off-white head. Sweet’n’sour caramel aroma. Quite full-bodied with sweetish caramel, fruit and yeast. Some alcohol in the finish. 220308
