An old-fashioned style of ale using several light coloured malts, complimenting a blend of traditional english fuggles and golding hops to achieve a deep long satisfying finish.

Bottle at Chris_o birthday bash 08. Pale gold with thin white head. Decent sherberty hop aroma. Nice attractive aroma. A little soapy but I thought pretty decent. Bit earthy, like a lot of BCAs, but nice enough.

A Mes rate: Bottle at the Oi Oi Saveloy tasting at Chris O’s.
Semi hazy gold with a rapidly vanishing head. Lovely hoppage, all grassy and floral. One dimensional really. Faint soap, decent tangy malt in the background giving it a slight earthy feel. Decent.

At May Ratebeer London Gathering at Chris O’s. Gold. Hoppy aroma. The taste has a bit of soapy sourness. Some bitterness. Slightly dull, but very drinkable.

Old gold colour. Markedly hoppy, especially on the nose, where grassiness dominates. Markedly bitter, with just a smidgen of pale, dry malt. Tart, lingering finish, perhaps a touch astringent. Quite austere, but no serous complaints from me about this one. Bright bottled from cask (gravity dispense), Cambridge Beer Festival, May 2005. RE-RATE. Bottle (bottle conditioned) at London tasting, May 2001 (courtesy harrisoni). BBE December 2008. Murky gold/amber colour with some lumpy stuff in suspension (although my helping was from near the bottom of the bottle). Fruity hop aroma with some tropical fruit, maybe melon. Smooth and easy drinking with more fruity hops in evidence on the palate. Seemed rather more easy going and less austere than my earlier notes suggest. I wonder whether the recipe has been tweaked a little - the ABV has gone up from 4.0% to 4.2%. 7/2/6/3/13=3.1 (original score retained).
