DeanF (72), Paris, France Jul 1, 2009 Basic macro lager, a little fruity taste, no real head. Drank from the bottle. arventresca (292), Greenville, North Carolina, USA Jun 27, 2009 Pours gold with thin white head. Smell is malty with hint of skunk. Pretty much a macro ale like you Bud or MGD. Drinkable, but not anything to get excited about. Dacrza (222), Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA Jun 25, 2009 The first "illegal" I had at an actual restaurant at Ocean City more than a decade ago...this one is going to be more professionally sampled...straw colored, almost "light" in its presentation--an effervescence helps offset thinness and the runny, weak head... yeasty bread dominates with the ping of Saaz hops as its butter--almost hints that something is amiss... presents a bland blanket of smoothness akin to water to the mouth, with little early or late that suggests this is a beer... such a light body leads to an almost phantom taste, a pilsneresque presence minus the snap of Eastern European brew... without really finding blemish, Tsing Tao finishes crisp but not sharp; one senses rice or corn int he tank here, but no skunk infiltrates... stays balanced throughout the 22 oz. bottle, never bitter or malty despite its aroma... Immy (1908), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Jun 22, 2009 11.2 oz bottle. Dark yellow with no head. Almost no carbonation. Sickly sweet corn nose, malty. Sweet flavor, body is pretty dead. Meh. kiefdog (1263), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 21, 2009 Bottle from a local Thai restaurant. Pours a light yellow color with thin head. Aroma is light with notes of grass, wet hay, some light yeast hints of honey. Flavor is light as well with notes of grass, yeast, honey, slight floral hop notes toward finish. Generally light body with watery finish. Not bad for a pale lager. Vertical Bacon Strips (581), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 15, 2009 The new fancy looking bottle makes this appear better but it’s not. The agressive pour still didn’t produce a cap that lasted more than 10 seconds. Nothing now. Pretty weak gold for colour but it is very clear. The aroma is mainly grains. Nothing offensive here as the smell seems fairly clean but it needs more and is just plain. Taste is pretty grainy with some nice bitterness on the finish but watery overall. Mouthfeel is decent with a foamy swish. Light bodied. Short lived mild bitter aftertaste. Reliable but boring. Goblincat (347), Westland, Michigan, USA Jun 1, 2009 Pours brightly clear and yellow. Skunky nose mixes with grain. The taste is really grainy, and lacks much beyond that. Pretty boring, but serves its purpose I guess. ChainGangGuy (2313), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA May 30, 2009 Appearance: Pours out a brilliant, light yellow body with a frothed, white head.
Smell: Initial skunk whiff. Let me do the Jumble and I’ll be right back. Alright, now that that’s blown away, we can get some faint maltiness, cereal sweetness, and a light touch of plain floral hops.
Taste: Faint maltiness with some standard cereal sweetness. Very mild floral hops with just a minimal, though growing amount of bitterness. Finishes dry and clean with a dainty crispness.
Mouthfeel: Thin-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Just another forgettable, faceless lager from China that makes me really wish I had some Chinese grub to pair with it. Mongolian Chicken, Pork Lo Mein, Moo Goo Gai Pan -- bring it on. Heck, I’ll even go for Broccoli Beef!
