Commercial Description:
Tsingtao Beer has a pleasant aroma and a well-balanced taste. It has high-malty flavor and well-hopped character. Tsingtao is produced with spring water from Laoshan, a mountain area famous throughout China for the purity of its water. The domestically-grown hops used to brew Tsingtao are of such high quality that they are also exported to European breweries. Tsingtao also uses the finest yeast and barley imported from Australia and Canada in its brewing process.

Bottle from Cost Plus. Pours a light golden color with thin white head. Nose has a bit of hops and grassy overtones. A bit skunky. Palate is slightly sweet with just a bit of hops bitterness and a slight skunky aftertaste. This is a yardwork beer. You could slam a few of these after coming in sweaty from mowing the lawn.

New review (some 4.5% version):
Guess they send the good stuff to Germany. This was horrendous. Pale yellow colour, big fluffy white head. Very faint malty aroma. The taste is... nasty, watery, of course, with a healthy dose of something odd, artificial and out of place. A mixture of paint, formaldehyde, old markers, dentist mouthwash and kitchen cleanser. Wonderful, eh ? The worst beer I’ve had the opportunity to taste. Thankfully, no aftertaste. I’ll go with an average between these two versions (rounded down). (2/1/1/1/2)

Old review (German Export 5% version):
Ooh, my first Chinese beer. Pours a medium sized and thick white head. Surprise, surprise, it was pale and yellow. Bad malt nose, comparable to a n/a nose. Oh, and my Tsingtao (German export, but found in the Scout Club Irish Pub in Samobor) had 5% alc.. The taste was cardboardy, but the lemon dominated. Why on earth is this imported here ? From a 12 oz. distinctive Tsingtao green bottle with no freshness date served in a standard pint glass. Made a decent appearance, poured a clear pale straw yellow with a nice white bubbly head that reduced to a minimally sticking thin lacing. Had largely a clean aroma, a faint graininess and floral hops. Overall, medium carbonation and a thin medium bodied mouth feel, average drinkability. Clean tasting, a smooth graininess and a light sweetness, just a touch of a sulfur yeastiness, a soft hop bite towards the crisp bready finish and a lingering soft sourness in the aftertaste.

12oz bottle- A light clear golden body with a small ring for a head. Aroma of slight skunk and malt. Taste of a pale lager with some dryness on the back end. I was expecting worse.

A plain, watery beer, good with hot chinese food, but I’d rather have an MGD with my Chinese food. I think the Chinese will advance in brewing, and this beer will be left behind.

Pours light golden with a mostly receding white head and an effervescent body. Aroma of graininess, adjunts, glue, sweet candied malts, wet grass clippings. Taste is cooked veggies, rice, very neutral aftertaste. Mouthfeel is thin bodied with fizzy, slightly foamy carbonation. Not too good.

I had low expectations, but was pleasently surprised. There is definitely something going on with the rice in there. Clean hoppy taste with light maltiness. I was thirsty when I drank it so it barely touched the sides as it were.
