Commercial Description:
Tsingtao Beer has a pleasant aroma and a well-balanced taste. It has high-malty flavor and well-hopped character. Tsingtao is produced with spring water from Laoshan, a mountain area famous throughout China for the purity of its water. The domestically-grown hops used to brew Tsingtao are of such high quality that they are also exported to European breweries. Tsingtao also uses the finest yeast and barley imported from Australia and Canada in its brewing process.

So pale and clear I thought it would explode. No head, save a couple bubbles. Skunked hops, grainy apple aroma. Thin with very little carbonation. Corn and cheap grainy flavour. Maybe some spice. Gritty hit and miss finish.

Moderate hoppy aroma. Large frothy, white head. Fair lacing. Mostly diminishing longevity. Clear sparkling, yellow body. Light acidic initial flavor. Light palate.

The new fancy looking bottle makes this appear better but it’s not. The agressive pour still didn’t produce a cap that lasted more than 10 seconds. Nothing now. Pretty weak gold for colour but it is very clear. The aroma is mainly grains. Nothing offensive here as the smell seems fairly clean but it needs more and is just plain. Taste is pretty grainy with some nice bitterness on the finish but watery overall. Mouthfeel is decent with a foamy swish. Light bodied. Short lived mild bitter aftertaste. Reliable but boring.

frosted lager glass / surprisingly not that bad. i had it with my dinner at an asian restaurant called Aloha, in Decatur, IL. i prefer the food. there were actually some flavor, but i’m not remembering what it was; otherwise, it’s a bit sweet, and it’s active. rice? anyway... i’m guessing this would be cloying and anything that is far away from drinkable, if let to warm. drink it cold, and use it to wash down your food.

Bottled. Pours honey colored with a small white head. Aroma is brown rice and perhaps some burnt toast. Flavor is sweet grain. Thin but sweet body with at least some noticable malt.

Very faint lemongrass and sourmash aromas... light gold into the glass, with a quickly dissipating fizziness. It’s definitely sweet, in a powdered sugar sort of way. Too bad the hops are "of such high quality that they are also exported to European breweries" (see description), because those breweries must make better use of them than Tsingtao does. There is virtually no hop character to this. It seems a tad overcarbonated, but quenches the thirst well enough, I guess. Maybe one positive is that the dry confectioner’s finish isn’t as cloying as I thought it would be, and it doesn’t hang around forever.

Nothing interesting here except very nice hoppiness. It was a pleasant surprise: for this hoppiness I could forgive its blandness and lack of character.

This beer claims to be made with spring water from Laoshan, which is ancient chinese for "my basement bathroom’s toilet tank". This only served to cleanse my palate of all taste before moving on to a real man’s beer. I then crushed the bottle with the cleft of my chin and ate the shards just to toughen up my stomach more, while laughing like a pirate who has just pillaged and sunk a Spanish Galleon
