Black with a pretty bog standard tan head, aroma of tobacco, chocolate and dates. Not too complex but ticks a few boxes. Perhaps the body is a wee bit on the light side for me, but I guess it’s pretty on par for a porter. The flavour follows a similar line to the aroma, showing a good blend of dried fruit and chocolate, with some subtle candy sweetness. Quick finish without any residual bitterness or sweetness. A good sessionable porter.

Lovely deep russet/ruby colour with a swiftly dissapating head, but evidence of lingering carbonation. This beer started out with an aromatic wine aroma (Riesling/Pinot Gris) but slowly gave way to more coffee and burnt caramel aromas. Excellent mouthfeel, sweet chocolate flavours and again a vinous flavour to it. Sauvin hops? I could be wrong. An intriguing drop and not at all what I expected out of a London Porter. I’d definitely have another one if only to attempt to try and figure this beer out.

Dark body with light brown head. Light milky chocolate aroma but the taste is more of roasted bitterness and less of the chocolate, more of a robust style where there is more of a roasted bitterness coming through than the chocolate notes that I expect.

Draught at the Malthouse, Wellington. Pours dark brown with an off-white head. Big aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. The flavour is predominantly roasted malt, the chocolate and coffee hiding more than I would like. I’m getting dark fruit as well. Medium bodied and finishes dry and bitter.

Pours a clear dark brown with a medium off-white head. The expected coffee and chocolate are complimented by some raisin/prune fruit character. Nicely executed toward the old school style of porter. My only criticism is that it is a little thin, but I’m a sucker for this style of porter so that didn’t kill it for me.

Pours black with a pillowy tan head. Roasted/burnt malt and dark chocolate nose. Some hop in there... Flavours are much the same, quite basic. A strong coffee taste, with hints of what seems to be prune. Dry, burnt malt and hop finish. Meh.
