Commercial Description:
Like its Irish ancestors but with a American Craft Brewers kick... even more roasty, hoppy and malty too. Full bodied but surpassingly smooth. Like the old Marines it is named after, it takes no retreat and offers no surrender.

Pretty good stout. Nice dark color with a dark rich brown head. Had some hints of smoke/wood/bourbon-barrell and hops, a bit watery in the beginning. Overall a good standard stout taste Definitely the best beer on tap judging from my experiences.

Pours a dark black color that is pretty much completely opaque except for the faintest of mahogany edges when held to a light source and a .5 finger foamy off-white head that quickly fades into a lasting ring. Minimal streaks of lacing linger. Roasted malt aroma with hints of chocolate, toffee, toast, hazelnut, caramel, slight coffee beans presence and subtle hops. This beer was a bit lighter bodied than I would like and expected based on the appearance and aroma. I find that a lot of the beers from this place have the same problem. It seems as if they all range from very much to slightly watered down. It does, however, have a pleasant roasted malt flavor that I wish was amped up a lot more and a nice sweet chocolate presence. There are also hints of caramel, toast, nut, toffee and subtle hops. I usually don’t like stouts that are hoppy but this is an exception. I thought that the bitterness in the finish provided a nice complexity and dryness that complimented the other flavors quite well.

Location: On tap at the Brew Pub, 8/14/09

Aroma: Decent nose, nutty, roasted, coffee
Appearance: Dark black, tan head
Flavor: Similar to the nose, malty, a bit on the dull side, but not bad
Palate: Light body and watery, a bit too thin
Overall Impression: This beer is OK. It’s nothing special, but it is drinkable, looks nicer then it tastes, and ends up being a touch to dull and watery to be considered anything more then an alright stout.

In short: A generic light session stout
How: Tap at brewpub (batch was 4.7%)
The look: Black body topped by a tan ring of foam
In long: medium roastiness, some figs, some raisins, a little floury, rather dry, vanilla hint, tickling carbonation, dry birch tree bark in the finish. The list of individual flavour elements could mean this is a good beer or not. In this case the whole thing just doesn’t hold-on together very well and I really had to focus to pick-up these flavour elements. Felt very generic. This Atlantic City beer is like is like about everybody walking the streets of Atlantic City, not a winner.

Stopped by the brewpub while at the nearby Convention Center for lunch. I settled on Leather-Neck for a business lunch beer. Black medium bodied, creme lacing, light bitterness, minimal coffee and roasted malts.

Draft...very dark brown with a light brown head that is gone almost instantly...mild molasses aroma...thin body for a stout....slight metallic aftertaste...weak roasted coffee taste
