Carmel, flan, and some grassy hops in the nose. Soft carmelized malts are nice and firm with jsut enough hop bitterness to back it up. Notes of creme brule’ and bread. I was expecting a bit more hoppieness but this one proved to be very nicly balanced. Finishes with carmel and bread. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 9, 2005 Updated: Oct 29, 2006rerate-got some bottles in DC that were less than 2 weeks old. No diacytl this time-just a fine nice grapefruit hopped pale here. i bumped up my rating a ton to reflect the new experience.
bottle-thanks to kinz for this one-bottled on dec 10, 2004 (fairly fresh). pous a beautiful orange hue with a 1/2 inch white head that was pretty smooth. Medium carbonation. Ok, this beer is infected with diacytl. I could smell it right out of the bottle. The aroma had notes of butter, carmel malts and piney hops, but the diacytl is just too much. flavors mimic snpa at times with a little more biscuity malt backbone. very similar hop flavor to snpa. I was really looking forward to giving this one a good rating (new river pale is great), but something went wrong with this batch. damn diacytl! sfontain (506), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 6, 2005 Bright orange with a sizeable, bubbly, white head; fair amount of tiny sediment. Aroma is primarily hops and lemon with some apple/pear and a little malt. Flavor: Hops, hops, and more hops; too much. Medium body, slightly sticky; extraordinarily long hop aftertaste. Lovely appearance and aroma, but there is such a thing as too much hops, and this is a perfect example. verymerrymonk (257), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 5, 2005 Pours a cloudy golden body with a small white head. Aroma reminds me of the bad perfume my grandmother wears. Very floral and hoppy flavor. A bit watery, but overall a good, easy-drinking APA. 11026 (1799), Alabama, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 28, 2005 Bottle. Nice copper-amber color. Pleasant white head leaves good lacing. Very hoppy aroma of citrus and flowers. Quite hoppy flavors throughout. Lacking a little bit in body. Malt balance is decent and I like APA’s a little hoppier but the body has a watery consistency which detracts a bit. Overall not a beer I would turn away. DogfishKing (22), USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 16, 2005 Really citrussy hops dominate this APA. Very very good. A definite step up from the ol’ Sierra Nevada I’m used to. A wonderful beer. SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 11, 2005 Lemony-orange appearance with oversized bubbles that instantly disappear. Butterscotch aroma with hints of fruit. Nicely balanced throughout - malty, hoppy, with a great smooth mouthfeel. Lemony bitter finish. I’m beginning to really love APAs and this is a prime example why. Yum.
