Aroma and flavor have decent saaz hop character but almost no malt for balance. rajendra82 (704), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 1, 2005 Old Dominion is back again in Georgia, and their lineup has been expanded to include the previously unavailable Hop Pocket Pils. A beer I had been looking forward to trying for a long time based on the mouthwatering name.
The 12 oz. brown bottle, bearing a bottling date of May 16, 2005, yielded a pale yellow, slightly hazy beer with an half inch thick foamy head and an active, but not overpowering carbonation. In other words, bearing the classic Pilsner look marred only by the multitude of less faithful macro imitations. Although unfiltered, I did not see much yeast sediment in the glass or the bottle. Must have fallen out before bottling I guess.
The smell was not as hoppy as I had anticipated. Floral hops, faint hay, clean pale malt, and a little lemon peel is what I could detect in the mostly subtle aroma.
While the smell was delicate, the taste was robustly hoppy, with a bitter, peppery, and spicy hop flavor from the start. The malt was honey like, and slightly toasty, but could not stand up to the hops too much. The aftertaste was very dry.
Light, creamy mouthfeel finished out a very refreshing package. A smooth beer of summer, this is definitely worth seeking out again and again.

Nice aroma of flowers and some sweetness. Great example of the style. Very surprised by a beer named Tuppers. lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 10, 2005 Pours a very, very pale gold with a lacy, creamy white head. Very fizzy. Smell is sweet and floral. Grassy and lightly hoppy.
Taste is grassy light malt. Lightly sweet followed by huge hops flavors - fruity and bitter. Hops bitterness hangs around on the palate forever. Finish is bitter and crisp. Hoppy aftertaste. Very nice pils and nice and hoppy.

Opaque yellow-gold with a decent and lasting cover of white head that leaves some sudsy lacing. Strong citrus hop flavour with some buttery notes leading through to a fairly assertive bitterness. Slick mouthfeel with medium body and fair carbonation. Bottle (trades Feb&Mar, 2005) enjoyed with beerbuzzmontreal, MartinT, Olivier_MTL, Rastacouere and Yowie. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 2, 2005 Pours a hazy yellow color with a creamy white head. Interesting aroma and flavor of fruits, spices and butterscotch with a bitter finish. Light to medium body, creamy texture, lively carbonation. A good and original pilsener. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 2, 2005 Couleur jaune paille, non filtré, légèrement trouble. Mousse blanche savonneuse.
