Aroma is sulfury lager, noble hop and malt. Taste is refined, with delicate hop and malt balance. Clearly a pils but nicely made and balanced (quite a bit more balance than Prima, which is forwardly hop). I get a metallic aftertaste that detracts somewhat. Not a blockbuster but decidedly tasty. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 29, 2003 Great bottle conditioned Pils. Cloudy deep gold with a fluffy almost snow-white head. Fantastic hop aroma with yeast and malt giving it a nice rounded aroma. Highly carbonated and a crisp mouthfeel. Flavor is a good balancing act of malt and hops with citrus notes giving it an overall pleasing flavor. raymow (738), Bensalem, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 15, 2003 Head is initially large, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy medium yellow, dense tiny/small particles, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), moderately hoppy (herbs, lemon, flowers, grapefruit), lightly yeasty (cobwebs). Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately bitter, lightly acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, heavily bitter, lightly acidic. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Not a big fan of the sourish unfiltered pils, but this one is decent. Here, the sourness is more a brisk lemony tartness than a dull coating yeasty one. Big, fresh aroma and pretty well balanced...malty enough to keep the hop finish from crushing it. I'd bet there are some non-noble hops employed, as I keep getting whiffs of something decidedly American, but they're not overbearing. sloth (1673), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 15, 2003 Clean white head that drops off into a thin clump resting in the center of my glass. Hazy gold color with a good bit of floaties, though it is unfiltered.. Med/light body. Well carbonated, lively. Grassy, spicey aroma.Dry grainyness with the spicey hops backing it up. Finish is dry, good hop bite. Prefer the ale, myself Kinz (2205), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 14, 2003 Updated: May 26, 2004Nice hazy gold, decent head that lasted quite well. Aroma was of clean, grainy malts and some vague hoppiness, nothing really popping out. The flavor was better balanced than I was expecting, with a good malt backbone. The hops were more earthy in nature, with a bit of a floral underpinning. I would have actually preferred a "fresher" hop profile. I would like to try a keg conditioned pint of this. NOTE: Sampled cask version on 5/26/04, very similar overall, simply fresher. Rating of cask version would be Ar 7, Ap 4, F 8, P 4, Overall 17, 4.0 in the end. Will leave my bottle rating up here because of the rarity of the cask version for other users. matta (1139), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 12, 2003 This brew was acquired in a trade with jgb9348 from NY, he rocks! ** The only flaw I can find concerning this beer is that I only have one bottle; when I wish I had an infinite supply. This is truly a top-notch pilsner; it is nearly perfectly hopped with a bittersweet bite and a truly refreshing, crisp, and moderately dry finish. From the time I uncapped this beer I was impressed. The Hop Pocket Pils poured with a beautiful burnt golden colored body, and a fluffy white head, which results in a great mellow lacing. The aroma and flavor are perfect for summer, or FL in general, maybe lemon zest, hops slightly wheat like, and yeasty? The only thing inhibiting me from scoring this beer higher is its lack of profound complexity. This Pils is simple, yet simply fantastic!
