KAggie97 (2406), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Oct 28, 2009 Tap at brewery during GABF 2009. Pours a weak yellow with a nose of jalepeno kettle chips. Flavor is crisp and tangy jalepeno chili with just enough bite in the finish to keep things respectable. Tingly but watery mouthfeel. Wow, another good chili beer. Surprisingly tasty. DaSilky1 (1933), San Diego, California, USA Oct 2, 2009 GABF 2009: Superb chili nose coming off of a slightly hazed yellow beer with a somewhat spotty head. A medium-bodied beer this was...and some nice, spicy chili flavors coming from of this shit. The base beer was clean and had adequate body...and it was a pretty nice palate for that chili flavor. Very nice, congrats. notalush (2628), Denver, Colorado, USA Sep 18, 2009 Hazy gold, with a lot of fine floating particles - the aroma is almost all peppers (earthy, lightly vegetal), but with a faint whiff of tangy wheat - the flavor is much the same - it showcases the flavor of the peppers, but with a fraction of their heat - don’t get me wrong, there is some spice, but not nearly as much as some other hot pepper beers - aside from the pepper flavor, however, there is not that much going on - just faint notes of the wheat beer underneath - but I suppose that it the point - we want to highlight the flavor of the peppers, and this beer does that quite well - quite approachable for the style. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Aug 31, 2009 12oz bottle, no date. Poured a slightly hazy light golden with a small fizzy white head, fading to a thin ring quickly. Dominant spicy pepper/vegetal nose with faint sweet malts behind. Flavor is much the same with light tingles of heat scattered on my tongue and throat. By the end of the glass, it had built into a smoldering burn, not bad though. Minimal bitterness in the finish. Low to moderate fizzy carbonation with a watery body. Not that great of a pepper beer. tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA May 3, 2009 Had this one on tap while on vacation in Boulder.
Poured a syrupy yellow that was not hazy, and had a head that disappeared into a halo in little time.
Smelled of candied chilies. Almost like what I imagine a chili air freshener smelling like.
Tasted extremely syrupy and heavy on just chili. Its a one note powerhouse of chilies and nothing else. Actually fun for the first sip, but then it just gets to be overkill.
Actually very hot in your throat form the chilis, and spicy food doesnt faze me.
It would be fun in 4oz servings, but just diarrhea fodder in larger servings. beerchugger (285), Colorado, USA Apr 24, 2009 (Bottle). A clear bright golden color, no head, no lacing and very little carbonation. The aroma was overwhelmingly all chili’s. The flavor exploded of peppar’s, chili’s, and heat. I could feel the heat from the peppars coursing down my throat as I swallowed. The body was rather thin but harbored an amazingly big, hot, spicey, and peppary flavor. This whole "beer" is just interesting, but too one dimensional. It finishes...um...hot? Hardly resembles a beer, no malt character, no hop character, it’s just a liquid jalepno. jbye4334 (652), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Apr 16, 2009 Updated: Jul 2, 2009(bottle). Pours a yellow color. Small white head. Strong chili pepper aroma. Strong pepper taste with light hops. Smooth finish, with chili pepper flavor that lasts in the back of the throat. Soft carbonation. On tap at the brewpub then again in bottles. Score of 24? No way. This is the single best vegetable beer I have ever had by a large margin. The pour is hazy gold with a small white head. The aroma is absolutely delightful. We’re talking real, true, genuine fresh pepper aromas. Deep hints at the sweetness of green pepper with the heat and bitterness of habaneros and jalapenos. It’s strong and sharp, almost like an IPA except with peppers instead of hops. The flavor is fantastic. Deep, complex bouquet of all kinds of pepper flavors make a crisply stinging profile which I welcome heartily. Yeah, it’s fairly spicy, it burns mostly in the back of my palate and down the throat, but it never gets out of hand. I had two bottles back to back and never thought the heat was overbearing. What I like about this is the amazing depth and genuine feel captured from the peppers. The palate is medium light and works very, very well on this beer. I bought a four pack to go from the brewery because of the uniquely delicious experience. This is easily the best chili beer I have ever tasted. I love it. What a well made, refreshing departure from the norm.
