Cream Style Stout by Twisted Pine Brewery http://www.TwistedPineBrewery.com/ Beer Style: Sweet Stout Two 12 oz bottles Aroma: A pleasant medium strength aroma of roasted grains and mild coffee. Appearance: Pours deep rich black with a tan head. The head dissipates quickly leaving traces of head on the glass. Flavor: The initial taste is lightly sweet with smooth roasted grain, malts, and coffee. The after taste lingers while the roasted flavors intensify. Mouth feel: It has a medium body, with mild carbonation. Overall Impression: It is easy to drink. The appearance and mouth feel are the beer’s strength. It would make a good base stout to add coffee or possible cherries to. It seems to hit the BJCP style guides, but I would like a fuller flavor. If you enjoy drinking beers with subtle flavors, this beer is for you.

In the bomber bottle from Wilburs. Pours black with a rich dark brown head. Has a nice coffee roasted aroma. Very smooth and milky palate. Lots of chocolate flavors. This was a surprisingly delicious stout due to the smoothness.

Opaque, motor oil appearance with a lively, rocky, brown head. Sweet, creamed-coffee base with hints of sweet milky chocolate. Dark-roasted malts. A pinch of smoke in the background. Earthy and tasty. Good stuff.

Draft at the brewpub. A pitch black beer with a big brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of chocolate as well as notes of roasted malt and coffee. The flavor is sweet malty with strongnotes of chocolate as well as lighter notes of roasted malt and bread, leading to a dry and slightly roasted finish where the chocolate note lingers.

Pours silky and oily, with a very small but creamy tan head. Roasted coffee aroma, bittersweet chocolate and the slightest bit of hop resins. Smooth and rich on the palate, nicely balanced acidity, hints of chocolate covered espresso beans, with some molasses spread over fresh biscuits in the summertime. Enjoyable.

650 ML bottle from Ernest and served in my Stone IRS snifter: Pours a deep brown (almost black) hue topped by a fading frothy tan head and okay lace. The aroma is like Bells Double Cream except a bit weaker. Noticeable coffee, chocolate, hint of smoke and molasses, some aromatic as well as PNW hops vapors with a light dash of plum and rose hips.

The taste is roasty and supported by an combination of charred and hop driven bitterness. A fair amount of coffee flavor towards the finish. Comes off more dry stout than the sweet stout I was expecting. (I therefore am glad it is not classified as a sweet stout). What I do not detect is any sourness noted by Ernest (perhaps it is time for a re-rate?). Finally there is a light but ever present smoky dryness about the finish which I am digging! What I am drinking does not equal what has been rated in the past, likely a factor of either a fresher beer or a change in recipe?

All told, I really enjoyed this brew.
Is it among the pantheon of stouts, well no.
Is it beergeek worthy, well YES.
