Appears pitch black with a dark head. Ironically tastes like cocoa powder meets stout; nothing too special though. KAggie97 (2481), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 28, 2009 Tap at brewery during GABF 2009. Pours a deep, thick black with a plastic coffee and chocolate nose. Flavor is roasted malt with tiny chunks of chocolate and cocoa powder. Average mouthfeel. Not bad but the taste is typical of a chain brewpub’s stout offering. BeerandBlues2 (3231), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 29, 2009 Draught. Pours opaque with a small fizzy dark brown head, mostly diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (burnt grain, chocolate), light hop (herbs), average yeast (leather, leaves) with notes of prune and charcoal. Full bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness and bitterness, light acidity.
